Cross country runners collect Semoball honors
Oak Ridge cross country runner Tanner Schamburg and Dexter cross country runner Margo Nea were voted the male and female Semoball Athletes of the Week, respectively, in balloting that concluded Wednesday night.
Schamburg collected 393 votes after capturing all-state honors at the Class 1 Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Columbia, Missouri. Schamburg finished 14th in a time of 17 minutes, 29.7 seconds in helping Oak Ridge to its first ever team title.
Cape Central's Jacob Bening (swimming, 316) finished runner-up, followed by Bell City's Kennett Rampley (cross country, 246), Notre Dame's Blake Morris (cross country) and Saxony Lutheran's Matt Wydra (soccer).
Nea finished with 229 votes after finishing all-state in the Class 3 Cross Country Championships in 19:51.5, good for 2th place. Nea had been battling strep throat for more than a week.
Advance's Roz Schrader (volleyball, 108) finished runner-up, followed by teammate Alandry Below (volleyball, 101), East Carter's Kennedy Thies (cross country) and Van Buren's Katie Griffin (cross country.
