Southeast soccer team falls 2-1 in OVC Tournament

The top-seeded Southeast Missouri State soccer fell to fourth-seeded SIU Edwardsville 2-1 in the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament on Friday at Houck Field.

The Redhawks outshot the Cougars 18-8 and had 10 shots on goal but were unable to get one past SIUE goalkeeper Jensen Schoch until less than five minutes were left in the game.

The Cougars scored on two of their four shots on goal, with Mackenzie Litzsinger scoring at the 41 minute mark of the first half and Megan Keeven netting a shot in the 77th minute to make it 2-0.

The Redhawks were playing without their regular goalkeeper, sophomore Bailey Redden, who received a red card in Southeast's previous contest and was ineligible by rule for Friday's game.

Abby Rollett, recently added to the Southeast roster, played all 90 minutes in goal for Southeast and made two saves.

Freshman midfielder Hailey Block scored on a penalty kick for the lone goal for Southeast.

The Redhawks, who went 8-1-1 in winning the regular-season OVC championship, closed their season at 11-5-1 overall.

SIUE (10-5-4) will face Belmont for the tournament title at 2 p.m. Sunday at Houck. The sixth-seeded Bruins also advanced by a 2-1 score, upsetting second-seeded Murray State (11-8).
