Barber, Cupples voted the Semoball AOW

Notre Dame swimmer Drew Barber and Holcomb volleyball player Bailey Cupples were voted the male and female Semoball Athletes of the Week, respectively, in balloting that concluded Wednesday night.

Barber, who collected 423 votes, set three school at the MICDS Invitational swim meet. The junior set individual records in the 50 and 100 freestyles, winning the former, and was a member of the victorious record-setting 200 freestyle relay team.

Finishing second was Bell City's Kennett Rampley (cross country, 329), followed by Poplar Bluff's Zak Lipsey (soccer, 306), Kennett's Kobe Patterson (cross country, 148), Notre Dame's Blake Morris (cross country) and Woodland's Timothy Sloan (cross country).

Cupples, a junior who totaled 515 votes, posted 34 kills, six aces and three blocks in the Class 1 District 1 tournament as the Hornets repeated as champions.

East Carter's Rylee O'Dell (softball, 269) finished runner-up, followed by Dexter's Margo Nea (cross country, 236), Sikeston's Emily McHaffie (volleyball), East Carter's Kenndy Thies (cross country) and St. Vincent's Genevieve Lape (cross country).
