MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Notre Dame, Perryville will meet for district soccer title

Top-seeded Notre Dame and second-seeded Perryville advanced to the finals of the Class 2 District 1 boys soccer tournament Monday in Perryville, Mo.

Notre Dame defeated fourth-seeded St. Pius X (Festus) 4-0, while Perryville blanked third-seeded Fredericktown 6-0.

Both teams were up 1-0 at halftime before pulling away in the second half.

Will Dodson starred for Notre Dame (14-5-1) as he netted a hat trick. Bulldogs goalkeeper Connor Westrich recorded the shutout.

Perryville (17-5-1) had an even bigger second half than the Bulldogs as they put five into the back of the net. Stanley Volansky and Dayton Strattman each scored two goals and tallied an assist in leading the Pirates to the win. Caleb Lappe and Austin Welk also pitched in a goal, while Colby Hager added an assist for Perryville.

Notre Dame and Perryville will play for the district championship at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Perryville Soccer Complex.

The Bulldogs bested the Pirates 2-1 at Notre Dame in the teams' only meeting this season.

Saxony Lutheran 3, McKinley Classical Leadership Academy 0

The third-seeded Crusaders upset the second-seeded Goldbugs to advance to the finals of the Class 1 District 1 Tournament.

Mason Dunn and Quinn Steffens scored the goals for Saxony Lutheran (9-9) while Jace Boland and Paul Kaufmann provided the assists. The Goldbugs were responsible for the Crusaders' other goal as they put one into the back of their own net.

Saxony will take on top-seeded Gateway Science Academy (10-7) in the finals at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The game will be played at Soldan International Studies High School in the St. Louis area.
