DAR RECAP: Poplar Bluff volleyball faces long road to conference final
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Poplar Bluff went 1-2-1 in pool play Tuesday night at the SEMO Conference Tournament to earn the fourth seed for bracket play.
The Mules (17-12-2) will open against Charleston at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Cape SportsPlex with the winner advancing to play Kennett, top-seed from the South Division, in the quarterfinal.
Poplar Bluff split with Notre Dame 27-25, 22-25, then lost to Jackson 25-22, 25-21, which earned the top seed out of the North. After the Mules beat Sikeston 25-19, 25-20, they lost to Cape Central 25-23, 25-23 a night after beating the Tigers on their home floor.

Cape Central earned the No. 2 seed out of the North and will face Oran in the quarterfinal. The winner will play the winner of the Kennett-Poplar Bluff/Charleston game.
On the other side of the bracket, New Madrid Central and Sikeston will open with the winner facing Jackson. Scott City and Notre Dame will play in the other quarterfinal.
The tournament is a double-elimination with the first-round losers playing for the Bronze title. The quarterfinal and semifinal losers fall into the Silver Bracket.
Championship games are set for 7 p.m. Thursday.
South Iron 2, Clearwater 0 (25-17, 25-22)
The Tigers hosted South Iron in a Pink Out game as the two schools raised over $1,100 in donations for Judy Ruble Koehr, a longtime employee of Clearwater School District who is battling breast cancer.
Clearwater seniors Elizabeth Gronski and Rachel Rowold each had three kills, Jaylin Street had three blocks but the Tigers (9-17-2) had a three-match winning streak snapped.
