Poplar Bluff, Naylor ousted in district softball semifinals
FARMINGTON — Poplar Bluff scored three runs in the second inning, but managed one hit after that as the Mules lost to Northwest 13-3 in the semifinals of the MSHSAA Class 4 District 1 tournament.
Serena Davis, Breann Thresher and Ella Zgaynor scored for the Mules and Morgan Courtney had two hits.
Northwest scored five runs in the first inning and six in the fifth to beat Poplar Bluff in five innings.
Brylee Misner, who was 0 for 2 with a walk against Northwest, finished her career with a team-record 22 home runs. She had eight during her senior season, two short of her own team-record of 10, which she set as a freshman.
Boyer, who is retiring from coaching after 15 total seasons, finishes with a career record 218-57-1 and a district championship in 2005.
Norwood 5, Naylor 4
Naylor scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead against Norwood, but was unable to hold on in the Class 1 District 1 semifinals.
Rainy Jarrett had a 2-run double in the sixth to put Norwood (15-6) ahead.
Danielle Shepard, Ricky Spargo, Alyssa Urich and Destiny Thomas each scored for Naylor. Pruett was 2 for 3 and the Eagles (12-10) finished with six hits while committing four errors.
Lyndsea Moore, Makenzie Crofford and Urich each got an RBI.
Faith Sullivan pitched five innings in the loss and allowed four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
Dora (20-3) won 3-1 against Van Buren (7-13) in the other semifinal.
