Southeast MIssouri State collects OVC wins in volleyball, soccer

The Southeast Missouri State volleyball team improved to 4-1 in Ohio Valley Conference Play with a sweep of visiting Eastern Illinois on Friday night at Houck Field House.

The Redhawks prevailed 25-22, 25-16, 25-16, recording their second sweep in OVC play and sixth overall.

Krista Berns and Laney Malloy recorded eight kills apiece for the Redhawks.

Annie Wehrheim added seven kills for Southeast Missouri State (12-7 overall) while Mikayla Kulhmann and Maggie Adams put down put down six and five kills, respectively. Claire Ochs provided a match-high 30 assists and notched nine digs as well for Southeast, which also got 12 digs from Tara Beilsmith.

Eastern Illinois fell to 1-16 overall and 0-5 in the OVC.

Southeast continues it homestand when SIU-Edwardsville (8-9, 3-2) visits at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Soccer blanks EKU

Hailey Block scored the lone goal to lead the Redhawks to a 1-0 soccer victory over the host Eastern Kentucky in Richmond, Kentucky.

Block scored in the 26th minute off a pass from Jennifer Brien. It was Block's fourth goal in the last eight days at Southeast Missouri State moved up to 5-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play and 8-4 overall.

The Redhawks outshot the Colonels 4-1, with Southeast goalkeeper Bailey Redden making one save in the shutout.

Eastern Kentucky fell to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in th OVC.

Southeast returns to action 1 p.m. Sunday against Morehead State in Morehead, Kentucky.
