East Carter sweeps BRL cross country titles
ELLINGTON — Ellington’s Carson McNail and East Carter’s Kennedy Thies won the Black River League Conference cross country meet Wednesday.
McNail won the boys race in 18 minutes, 23 seconds and Thies won in 22:33.
McNail bested Bunker’s Eli Bullock by 10 seconds for the win and the two were the only runners to break 19 minutes.
Thies won by more than a minute as Ellington’s Kylie Hampton took second in 24:49.

East Carter won both races as a team, as well.
After Thies, the Redbirds finished their six other runners between seventh and 14th to edge Ellington by a point.
The key to the win was East Carter’s two non-scoring runners. Audrey Carter finished 13th in 28:42 and Brooklyn Kearbey was 14th (28:47). The two finished ahead of Ellington’s fifth runner giving the Redbirds a 28-29 edge.
Jaci Douglas took seventh for East Carter in 27:14, followed by Kadance Reynolds in eighth (27:22), Rylee O’Dell in ninth (27:22), Hunter Warren in 11th (28:02) and Korra Wilson in 12th (28:25.90).
For Ellington, Grace Lloyd finished third behind Hampton in 25:16, Tyler Conkright was sixth (27:11), Hannah Fitzgerald was 10th (27:25), Natalie Barnett (28:56) 12th and Ella Morton finished 17th (30:40).
Clearwater’s sole runner Nancy Hampton finished 15th (28:56).
In the boys race, the Redbirds finished with 24 points and Clearwater took second with 19 points.
Braxton Walker led East Carter in third place (19:30), followed by Eli Marvin in sixth (20:06), Kyren West in eighth (20:17), Jake Wilder in ninth (20:25) and Colby Duckett in 10th (20:29).
Clearwater was led by Jacob Cheney in fifth (19:38), followed by Ty Silvester in 12th (21:34), Brenden Edwards in 16th (22:31), Caleb Bone in 20th (23:40) and Gavin Harbison in 27th (27:26).
Ellington’s Logan Loyd finished seventh (20:13) and Hayden Williams finished 26th (26:54).
