CHARLESTON AT MALDEN

ABOUT CHARLESTON: Charleston beat Portageville 48-8 in Week 1, Hayti beat Charleston 36-7 in Week 2, Charleston beat Doniphan 20-0 in Week 3, Scott City beat Charleston 35-7 in Week 4, Charleston beat Kelly 24-10 in Week 5, and Sikeston beat Charleston 27-12 in Week 6. Charleston displayed a balanced attack on offense last week in a competitive loss against arch-rival Sikeston. The Bluejays rushed the ball 31 times for 170 yards and completed six of 15 passes for 136 yards. Charleston’s offense was hindered by the four turnovers it committed last week. Suave Fitzpatrick moved the ball 10 times for 103 yards last week against Sikeston and completed six of 15 passes for 136 yards while throwing three interceptions. Lents McClinton had 17 carries for 75 yards and J’Marlon Moore added 13 carries for 38 yards last week. Brian Visor caught a 60-yard touchdown pass last week for Charleston.

ABOUT MALDEN: NMCC beat Malden 65-18 in Week 1, Caruthersville beat NMCC 54-6 in Week 2, Malden beat Portageville 48-12 in Week 3, Kelly beat Malden 35-14 in Week 4, East Prairie beat Malden 35-30 in Week 5, and Hayti beat Malden 56-14 in Week 6. The Malden defense forced four turnovers last week against Hayti. The Green Wave defense has given up at least 35 points in each of its five losses. Malden likes to move the ball in the air on offense. Receiver Drew Blankinship is Malden quarterback Shay Amoss’ favorite passing target. Coy Wade, who caught a 57-yard touchdown pass last week, is a threat to break loss for a big play downfield.

DEXTER AT KENNETT

LAST WEEK: Kennett beat NMCC 50-6; Caruthersville beat Dexter 56-7

HEAD TO HEAD STREAK: Dexter leads series 50-39. Kennett has won the last four meetings.

ABOUT DEXTER: Ste. Genevieve beat Dexter 49-7 in Week 1, Salem beat Dexter 19-6 in Week 2, NMCC beat Dexter 43-15 in Week 3, Dexter did not play in Week 4, Dexter beat Doniphan 32-0 in Week 5, and Caruthersville beat Dexter 56-7 in Week 6. Senior running back Mason Keena has paced Dexter on the ground this season with 94 carries for 385 yards and four touchdowns. Austin Guy has added 48 carries for 215 yards. Quarterback Haden Hillis has completed 29 of 94 passes for 422 yards. He has thrown three touchdowns and six interceptions. Austin Guy has a team-high 65 tackles for Dexter. Ryder Foster has 40 tackles. Ryan Collier and Ryder Boles suffered injuries in Week 6 against Caruthersville and their status is questionable for Week 7.

ABOUT KENNETT: Undefeated Kennett (6-0), which is ranked No. 6 in the latest Class 3 state poll, beat Fredericktown 49-0 in Week 1, beat Gosnell (Ark.) 44-8 in Week 2, beat Ste. Genevieve 33-0 in Week 3, beat Caruthersville 41-22 in Week 4, beat North County 45-6 in Week 5, and beat NMCC 50-6 in Week 6. Kennett starting quarterback Bodey Ellis returned in Week 6 after missing two weeks with an injury and completed 2 of 6 passes for 29 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Tanner Duncan. Ellis also ran 73 yards for a touchdown last week. Kennett is a run-first squad that has carried the ball 216 times for 2,105 yards. Marsayv’aun Harrell is the Indians’ leading rusher with 76 carries for 835 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. Last week against Caruthersville Harrell had 14 carries for a season-high 222 yards on the ground. Jordan Jarrett, La’Quez Pulliam, Justin Hunt, and Joquan Williams are also candidates to make big plays rushing the ball. Jarrett broke loose for a 28-yard touchdown run last week. The Kennett defense, which allows seven points per game, has forced 20 turnovers this season.
