Area briefs: Notre Dame alum faring well at the next level
Sarah Bell, a 2017 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, claimed medalist at the 12th Annual Johnie Imes Invitational while leading Oral Roberts University to a second-place finish Sunday at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Missouri.
Bell, a sophomore, had rounds of 72, 68 and 69 to finish at 7-under par on the par-72 layout.
She finished one stroke ahead of Laura Edmonds of Florida Gulf Coast University.
Missouri, the host, won the 15-team tournament that had 75 players in the field.
It was the first collegiate win for Bell, a two-time MSHSAA Class 1 individual state champion while at Notre Dame who helped the Bulldogs to state titles in 2016 and 2017.
Dale Pingel of Cape Girardeau recorded his first hole-in-one on his 66th birthday Sept. 26 at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.
Pingel used a 5-wood to ace No. 8, a par 3 playing 157 yards. David Goehring, Norris Johnson and Bob Templeton witnessed the shot.
Mark Garrett won the MGA Point Series event, match play vs. par, Saturday at Dalhousie Golf Club.
Garrett finished at 1-up, as did Rob Erlbacher, and prevailed in a scorecard playoff. Ian Soutar placed third at 1-down, and David Babcock finished fourth at 2-down.
