MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Notre Dame tennis team wins SEMO Conference Tournament

The Notre Dame tennis team won the SEMO Conference Tournament on Friday in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, on the strength of its doubles play.

Both Bulldogs doubles teams won semifinal matches and will play for the title at date to be determined. Claire Bruenderman and Anna Grace Stroup defeated Dexter's Kyla Propst and Julianna Rivera 6-0, 6-2 in one semifinal, while Claire Southard and Megan Gullette rallied to defeat Cape Girardeau Central's Anita Kellum and Maria Seidu-Sofo 0-6, 6-2, 6-4.

In singles play, Kennett's Anelle Harris defeated Cape Central's Emily Ford 6-3, 6-0.

Notre Dame finished with 17 points, followed by Cape Central (11), Kennett (10), Dexter (5) and Jackson (1).

Sophomore Paige Glueck posted a double-double with 22 digs and 13 kills and also dished out seven assists as Oak Ridge survived a scare from Oran in a three-set thriller nailbiter at home.

Zoe Berry tallied 12 assists, nine kills and nine digs for the Blue Jays, who upped their record to 10-7-2 with the win. Bailey Urhahn notched 11 digs for Oak Ridge and Sierra Woodall added three kills.

The Eagles fell to 2-9-3 with the loss. Oran will look to bounce back on Monday when it hosts Zalma.

Oak Ridge is back on the court on Monday when it travels to Marble Hill to face Woodland.

Logan Lemons nailed six kills, put up two blocks and served two aces to lead the Bulldogs in the road sweep of the winless Indians.

Jolie Pickett contributed three kills and two aces for Zalma (6-9-2). Tracie VanGennip provided five assists and three aces for the Bulldogs, who also got two aces and a kill from Melena Cato. Zoe Cookson and Haley Gunn chipped in one kill apiece for the Bulldogs as well.

Puxico fell to 0-11-1 with the defeat.

Eagle Ridge wins two

The Eagle Ridge Christian School volleyball team improved its record to 15-3 with straight-set victories at home over The Fulton School at St. Albans (25-11, 25-7) and Egyptian (Tamms, Illinois) (25-14, 25-15) on Friday.

Rachel Margrabe accumulated a double-double with 17 digs and 12 kills and also had four aces to lead the Eagles. Gracey Mink nailed seven kills and Sydney Gartman contributed 23 assists and two aces. Anna Hanselman served eight aces in the Eagles' first win over Fulton (St. Albans), while Lydia Smothers notched 14 digs and Jasmine Brown posted 13 digs.

Egyptian defeated Fulton in the other game of the night to improve the Pharaohs' record to 8-7.

Eagle Ridge is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Farmington to face St. Paul Lutheran.


Jackson 1, Parkway West 1

The Indians and the host Longhorns played to a draw in the opening game of the Parkway Invitational Tournament.

Holden Potter netted the goal for Parkway West (3-6-1). Goalkeeper Ben Jenkins made nine saves for the Longhorns.

Jackson (4-2-2) resumes tournament action at 10 a.m. Saturday against Parkway South followed by a 1 p.m. game with Parkway Central.

No additional information was provided.

Reitz Memorial 6, Notre Dame 5 (OT)

The Bulldogs fell one goal short in overtime to Reitz Memorial (Evansville, Indiana) to drop their first game in the River Region Rumble Tournament at McCracken County High School in Paducah, Kentucky.

Notre Dame (6-2-1) resumes tournament action Saturday against Henry Clay (Lexington, Kentucky).

Further game details were not submitted.


Bell City 10, Woodland 4

Jeffery Allen hit a double and drove in two runs as the Cubs downed the Cardinals at home to notch their 10th win.

Luke Nichols pitched three hitless innings to earn the win for Bell City (10-1). He recorded five strikeouts and two walks.

Cecil Abernathy went 2 2/3 innings on the mound and was charged with the loss for Woodland (2-3). He surrendered 10 runs (one earned) on five hits, walked five batters and struck out two.

Seth Cauble doubled to produce the only extra-base hit of the game as the Eagles soared to victory at home over the Camels.

Connor Kern went the distance on the mound to get the win for Oran (9-3). He recorded 10 strikeouts and one walk.

Jacob Vines pitched three innings and took the loss for Campbell (9-4). He allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Oran closes out its fall season today when it hosts Bernie.
