STATESMAN ROUNDUP: Bloomfield baseball scores six late runs to beat Senath-Hornersville; Bell City, Advance win

The Bloomfield Wildcats scored six unanswered runs and rallied to beat the Senath-Hornersville baseball team 8-5 Thursday at Senath.

The Lions (1-7) scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead before Bloomfield (5-5) scored two in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Christian Hartlein was the winning pitcher, yielding five runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts and four walks in five innings. Evan Shackles struck out three and walked one in two hitless innings.

Holden Coronado was credited with the loss, permitting four runs — two earned — on two hits with six strikeouts and four walks in two innings.

Gage McNeil went 3 for 3 with an RBI to lead Bloomfield’s 10-hit attack. Will Thorn went 2 for 4 with two doubles and one RBI. Shackles went 2 for 4 with one RBI.

Bell City 3, Oran 0

Luke Nichols and Nate Stone combined on a five-hit shutout, and the Bell City baseball team beat Oran 3-0 Thursday at Bell City.

Nichols picked up the win, allowing five hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

Stone struck out the only batter he faced to record a save.

Kaden Hargrove was charged with the loss, allowing three runs — two earned — on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Bell City (8-0) scored all three runs in the fifth inning.

Jeffery Allen went 2 for 2 to lead the Cubs. Jack Duenne went 1 for 2 with two RBIs, and Stone went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Oran fell to 7-2.

Advance 5, Naylor 4

Hunter Curtis scored on a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning to lift the Advance baseball team to a 5-4 win over the Eagles on Thursday at Naylor.

The Hornets (5-5) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Naylor (4-3) scored two in the third and two in the fourth to tie the score at 4.

Ridley Bailey picked up the win, striking out three and walking one in three hitless innings.

Chase Sarabia was charged with the loss, giving up five runs on 13 hits with three strikeouts and three walks in 6 1/3 innings.

Gus Garner went 3 f0r 4 with one RBI to pace the Hornets. Jack Bailey went 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Jack Below went 2 for 4. Hunter Tidwell had a team-high two RBIs for Advance.

VOLLEYBALL

Advance 2, Leopold 0

The unbeaten Advance volleyball team was challenged in the opening set but rolled in the second to beat Leopold 25-20, 25-8 Thursday night at Leopold.

The Hornets improved to 6-0.

Bell City 2, East Prairie 0

The Bell City Cubs achieved their first win of the season, beating the first-year Eagles 25-7, 25-16 Thursday at East Prairie.

The Cubs improved to 1-6-2.

Cape Central 2, Bloomfield 0

The Bloomfield Wildcats lost to a strong Cape Central volleyball squad, dropping a 25-13, 25-20 decision Thursday night at Cape Girardeau.

Eva Hester paced the Wildcats with five kills, Melanie Phillips had four and Mallory Hawkins three.

Ashton Bell had team highs of 14 assists and two aces, and Karsynn Phillips led the Wildcats with 12 digs.

Bloomfield fell to 3-6-1, and Cape Central improved to 8-2.

GIRLS TENNIS

Arcadia Valley 5, Dexter 4

The Arcadia Valley girls tennis team gained the edge in doubles and beat the Dexter Bearcats 5-4 Thursday at T.S. Hill Middle School.

The Tigers won two of three doubles matches before the teams split the six singles matches.

Dexter’s Nos. 5 and 6 players, Julianna Rivera and Maci Comfort, went 3-0, each winning in singles and teaming to win in doubles.
