Prep Roundup (Sept. 14): Bruenderman, Southard lead Notre Dame to tourney win

The Notre Dame girls tennis team won the Cape Central Team Doubles Tournament on Saturday.

The Bulldogs, along with host Cape Girardeau Central and Kennett finished with a record of 3 wins and 1 loss after round-robin play. For the first tiebreaker, all three teams finished with 9 match wins. Notre Dame prevailed on the second tiebreaker with 19 sets won to win the tournament.

Cape Central and Kennett tied for second place with 18 sets won.

Jackson finished in third place with an overall record of 1 win and 3 losses.

Fredericktown finished in fourth place with a record of 0 wins and 4 losses.

FALL SOFTBALL

Sullivan 4, Jackson 3

Morgan Conklin blasted a home run but it was ultimately not enough as the Indians fell one run short in the loss to the undefeated host Eagles in the championship semifinals of the Back-to-School Classic.

Karli Johnson pitched a whole game to suffer the loss for Jackson. All four runs were earned and she had six strikeouts and five walks.

Addison Purvis was the winning pitcher and also hit a home run to lead Sullivan (8-0). She went 5 1/3 innings in the circle and gave up no runs or hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

Hannah Cox smacked two home runs for the Eagles, who later went on to defeat Logan-Rogersville 10-0 for the tournament championship.

Ainsley Watson belted a triple and batted in three runs as the Indians rebounded to down the Dutchgirls for third place at the Back-to-School Classic.

Karli Johnson went 6 2/3 innings in the circle to pick up the win for Jackson. She allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

Addison Wright tossed a full game and also doubled for Owensville (5-4). All but one of the 10 runs were earned and she had four strikeouts and one walk.

Jackson’s Kaydi Rhodes carded a 1-over-par 73 to place third individually as the Indians also placed third as a team at the St. Joseph’s Academy Angels Classic on Saturday at the Quail Creek Golf Club in the suburban St. Louis area.

Brooke Biermann of Lafayette (Wildwood) shot a 2-under-par 70 to earn the medalist honors.

Jace Boland scored two goals and had one assist as the Crusaders backed back after dropping their first game to prevail in the consolation semifinals of the Hannibal Tournament.

Paul Adams, D.J. Dreyer, Milo Greenfield, Justin Samanta and Kory Siebert scored the other goals for Saxony Lutheran. Koby Drury, Austin Kirn, Ty Miller and Garrett Richie each had an assist.

The Crusaders went on to fall to Macomb, Ill., 3-0 in the consolation championship game.
