MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Jackson golfers win Rockwood Invitational

Ella Overstreet carded a 3-over-par 75 to place second individually as the Jackson girls golf team finished nine strokes ahead of the host Falcons to capture the championship of the Rockwood Summit Invitational Tournament on Thursday at the Crescent Farms Golf Course in the suburban St. Louis area.

Teammate Kaydi Rhodes shot a 79 in a four-way tie for sixth place for the Indians.

Brooke Biermann of Lafayette (Wildwood) fired a 3-under 69 to earn the medalist honor.

Jackson returns to its home course at Kimbeland Country Club on Tuesday for a tri-match with Farmington and Notre Dame.

Kaya Carroll went 5-for-5 with five RBIs as the Red Devils tasted victory for the first time this season in the slugfest win over the Crusaders in Jackson.

Jayden Welch pitched six innings to earn the win for Chaffee (1-7). She surrendered 12 runs (two earned) on 11 hits, struck out six batters and walked three.

Lilly Wessel doubled and drove in five more runs for the Red Devils, who put up seven runs in the final inning.

Bryanna Hale tossed four innings to be marked with the loss for Saxony Lutheran (0-5). She allowed 14 runs (11 earned) on 11 hits, walked seven and struck out two.

Kristen Barwick doubled with three RBIs as the Bulldogs put up five runs in the first inning alone to send the Dragons home with a loss in the five-inning contest.

Hailey Kutz got the complete-game win in the circle for Notre Dame (9-1) with six strikeouts and no walks.

Halle Heuring added a double and two RBIs for the Bulldogs.

Krystin Keath pitched a whole game to suffer the loss for DeSoto (3-5). She surrendered seven earned runs, walked four batters and had no strikeouts.

Brooke Huber hit a solo home run but it was ultimately not enough as the Hawks edged the Pirates by one run and snapped a five-game winning streak in the conference loss on the road.

Makayla Brown went the distance in the circle to sustain the loss for Perryville (6-3, 1-1 JCAA Conference). She allowed one earned run and recorded six strikeouts and one walk.

Elly Eckrich was the winning pitcher and also doubled for Hillsboro (8-2, 4-0). She threw a complete game and gave up one earned run with nine strikeouts and no walks.

Junior Catie Davis blasted a solo home run as the Tigers waged a four-run seventh-inning rally that came up short at home.

Keri Williams tossed a full game to suffer the loss for Cape Girardeau Central (3-5). She allowed three earned runs and recorded seven strikeouts and no walks.

Kayleigh Turk hit three doubles and batted in two runs to pace the Tigers at the plate.

Alyssa Urich was the winning pitcher for Naylor (3-3). She threw 5 1/3 innings and gave up six earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Stanley Volansky and Austin Welk recorded two goals and one assist apiece as the Pirates downed the Eagles on the road in what was a historical milestone for the school's program.

Stratton Kaempfe and Dayton Strattman chipped in one goal and one assist apiece for Perryville (7-1). Jake Unterreiner added an assist for the Pirates as did goalkeeper Ty Baudendistel, who made 12 saves at the post.

It was the 200th win for the Perryville soccer program under coach Jerry Fulton.

The Indians did not drop a single set in the conference sweep of the Mules at home.

Jackson (4-4-1, 3-2 SEMO Conference) will be back in action Saturday in the Cape Central Doubles Tournament.

Sikeston Invitational

Notre Dame was among five teams participating in the Sikeston Invitational along with the host Bulldogs, Charleston, Fredericktown and Kennett.

Claire Southard and Megan Gullette were doubles champions for the Bulldogs. The pair defeated their fellow teammates Claire Bruenderman and Anna Grace Stroup for the doubles title.

Kennett's Annelle Harris defeated teammate Taylor Hufford 8-0 for the singles title.


Notre Dame 294, Jackson 102, Saxony Lutheran 23

The Bulldogs captured first place in all but two events in the three-team match with the Indians and Crusaders at Central Municipal Pool.

Nicholas Hux and Noel Keran were dual winners for Notre Dame. Hux won the 200 freestyle with his first-place time of 1 minute, 54.20 seconds and posted a first-place time of 1 minute, 0.02 seconds in the 100 backstroke. Keran won the 200 individual medley (2:15.96) and 100 freestyle (54 seconds flat) for the Bulldogs.

Trent Paullus won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.96) and Caleb Burgard won the diving competition for Jackson.

Addie Johnson nailed eight kills and had six digs as the Cardinals remained undefeated in the 25-19, 25-11 sweep of the Tigers at home.

Emma Brown tallied six kills and five digs while Maddison Altenthal chipped in six kills and two blocks for Woodland (7-0-1). Chloe Goodwin served four aces for the Cardinals, while Ally Whitener dished out 14 assists and Kaitlin Zajicek provided seven assists.

Clearwater dropped its record to 0-3 with the loss.

Molly Conrad put down five kills as the Panthers edged the Rams 25-16, 25-23 at home.

Gracie Cook contributed four kills and three aces for Meadow Heights (4-4) while Josey Wahlers finished with four kills and eight assists. Kambri Erzfeld served four aces and notched five digs for the Panthers.

Jersey Black accumulated five kills, three blocks and two aces to pace Scott City (1-3) in the loss.

Mackenzie Stoner recorded seven kills and seven digs to lead the Indians in the 25-18, 25-19 sweep of the Hawks at home.

Hannah Shinn also had seven kills and Haylee Quatmann added five kills for Jackson (3-1). Katelyn Miller notched 14 digs to pace the Indians defensively.

It was the third-straight loss for Hillsboro (0-3).

The Bulldogs fought back after dropping the first set to come away with their second win of the week in the 21-25, 25-21, 25-18 victory over the Bears.

Jace Jansen doubled, but host Leopold could not contend with a strong third inning from the visitors.

Samuel Horrell pitched three innings tand took the loss for Leopold (0-4). He allowed nine earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Will Thorn went 2 1/3 innings on the mound to earn the win for Bloomfield (3-4). He gave up one earned run on two hits and recorded five strikeouts and one walk.
