DAR Roundup: Ellington's McNail wins Willow Springs race

WILLOW SPRINGS, Mo. — Ellington’s Carson McNail won the Class 1 race in 18 minutes, 14.48 seconds at the Steve Waggoner Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at the Willow Springs Municipal Golf Course.

For the girls team, Grace Lloyd took second in 24:12. Fordland’s Mia Wiley won the race in 23:33.

Van Buren’s Dominic Hill was 10th in the Class 1 race in 19:55. For the Van Buren girls team, Katie Griffin took third in 24:15, and Addison Lewis was sixth in 24:36.

Van Buren won the girls meet with 31 points while Ellington was third with 49.

In Class 2, East Carter’s Kennedy Thies finished third in 22:30 seconds, a little less than a minute behind winner Macey Penner of Mountain Grove. East Carter had all five of its runners finish in the top 22.

For the East Carter boys team, Braxton Walker was the top finisher after taking 10th place in 19:59.31, barely edging out Eli Marvin who was 11th in 19:59.90.

SOFTBALL

Twin Rivers 3, Neelyville 1

The Royals scored three runs in the fourth inning and it was all they needed after holding the Tigers scoreless after the first.

Abbey Hester, Whitney Williams and Allie Kacynski each scored for Twin Rivers (5-1). Leadoff hitter Hannah Eddy was 3 for 3 with a double, but didn’t score.

Kascynski pitched in the win and allowed five hits and no walks with eight strikeouts, outdueling Payton Reinbott, who had nine strikeouts and no walks with six hits allowed for Neelyville (3-2).

Reinbott was also 2 for 3 with a run to lead the Tigers’ offense.

Naylor 9, Cape Central 7

Naylor gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but held on for the win.

Faith Sullivan picked up the win after pitching just two innings and allowed a hit with no walks and no strikeouts. Allysa Urich pitched the final four and allowed eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Aribi Pruett had a pair of doubles for Naylor (4-4) and finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. Sullivan drove in two runs while Urich and Shae Sarabia both had a pair of hits and one RBI. Urich scored three times and Kaylynn Johnson scored twice.

VOLLEYBALL

Clearwater 2, Woodland 0 (25-19, 25-11)

Jaylin Street had 11 serves and three aces for Clearwater (1-2) to go with three kills on six attacks and two blocks as the Tigers picked up their first win of the season. Elizabeth Gronski finished with five assists.
