The tee time for the event is slated for 1 p.m. on Friday, July 26, at Kennett Country Club.

All proceeds from the event go toward projects for Kennett athletic program.

Kennett athletic director Jim Vaughan said in recent years money raised at the event has been used to purchase bleachers for the tennis courts, a net system for the volleyball program, signs for the football field house, a timing system for the track team, a record display board for track, and a softball pitching machine.

“We specify projects within our athletic department for the money to go toward each year,” Vaughan said. “Our main project this year is to try to put outfield windscreens on the baseball and softball fields.”

Vaughan said the money raised at the event has increased each year. Approximately $5,000 was raised in 2016, $6,800 was raised in 2017, and $15,000 was raised in 2018.

The number of golfers competing at the event has also increased each year. There were 16 teams in the event in 2016, 20 teams in 2017, and 24 teams in 2018.

“We’ve had a pretty good increase in sponsorship and the number of teams competing since we started the event,” Vaughan said. “Our goal this year is to have more than 24 teams.”

The entry fee for the tournament is $75 per participant. Checks may be made to the Kennett Booster Club. The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf and a cart, lunch, a tournament T-shirt, and a gift bag.

A major sponsorship is $500 and a hole sponsorship is $100. Major sponsors will have their business listed on the tournament T-Shirt. Hole sponsors will have their name put on a sign and placed at a hole.

Sponsors may also make a donation to the silent auction.

Side games included as the event are a Redskins Game, Hole-in-One Hole, Double Your Money Hole, 50/50 Drawing, and Silent Auction.

Vaughan said he also hopes to add two new divisions - a Gold Flight and Kennett School District Flight - to the tournament.

“We have a group of gentleman that play daily,” Vaughan said. “I’d like to add a Gold Flight so they can compete amongst themselves.

“I also want to encourage our staff to get out there and be involved,” Vaughan added. “This will allow people within our school district who are not experienced golfers to get out there and be a part of the tournament.”

Golfers may sign up to compete at the event with Donnie Shelton at the Kennett Country Club.
