SD ROUNDUP: Fifth inning run leads Malden baseball to 4-3 win over East Prairie; Cooter shuts out Dexter

MALDEN, Mo. — Malden and East Prairie were tied at three heading into the fifth inning, on Wednesday.

After the Eagles failed to score in the top half of the frame, though, the Green Wave responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning, which was enough to get the 4-3 win.

Carson Aycock did everything for the Eagles.

On the mound, he pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs. He also struck out seven and walked two batters.

At the plate, he also helped his cause, by tripling for his lone RBI of the game.

Cooter 5, Dexter 0

COOTER, Mo. — The Dexter baseball team struggled to make contact and lost 5-0 to the Wildcats on Wednesday at Cooter.

The Bearcats (2-14) struck out 11 times and managed only four hits in losing their fourth straight game.

Lane McLevain secured the victory. He allowed four hits and one walk while striking out 11 in seven innings.

Dawson Jones was charged with the loss, yielding five runs — four earned — on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks in four innings.

Chris Crowder and Jacob Watkins homered for the Wildcats, who improved to 11-5.

Peyton Driskill, Riley Slusher, Luke Thurston and Tyler Wright had one hit apiece for the Bearcats.

Oran 19, Scott County Central 0

ORAN, Mo. — Todd Priggel went 3-for-3 with two triples and four RBIs as the Eagles flew to a three-inning home conference win over the Braves.

Kaden Hargrove added two hits, driving in three runs and scoring three times, and Kole Simms scattered two hits over three innings to get the win for Oran (8-6).

Jessie Long went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, and Claire Ramsey was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs for Oran (12-4).
