MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Jackson boys tennis picks up first-ever victory

The Jackson boys tennis team won a dual match for the first time in school history, winning five singles and one doubles match to defeat Poplar Bluff on Tuesday in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

This is the second year Jackson (1-1, 1-1 SEMO Conference) has had a boys tennis team. Poplar Bluff dropped to 1-2, 0-2 in conference.

Notre Dame 5, Dexter 4

The Bulldogs edged the visiting Bearcats in a SEMO Conference contest thanks to four singles and one doubles victories.

Notre Dame improved to 4-1 overall, 2-1 in the SEMO Conference. Dexter dropped to 4-3 overall, 3-1 in the conference.

Peyton Eftink drove in two runs on three hits as the Hawks flew to a home win over the Indians.

Bryce Phelps went 2-for-3 with a double, and Devin Heuring was 3-for-3 for Kelly (7-2). Grant Menz tossed five innings of two-run ball to get the win.

Colby Hager took the loss for St. Vincent (4-10), giving up eight runs (six earned) in 3 1/3 innings.

Ryan Lewis struck out 12 batters and allowed just one unearned run in a complete-game performance on the mound as Leopold won at home.

Lewis allowed four hits and walked one. He also went 2-for-4 with a double at the plate. Simon Elfrink also went 2-for-3 for Leopold (4-3), which had six hits.

David Layton had two of the four hits for Oak Ridge (2-4).

Bryce Hahs took the loss, allowing six hits and three earned runs over six innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Ridley Bailey doubled in a run, but it wasn't enough to lift the Hornets to victory as the Royals dealt them their first loss of the season.

Bailey was the losing pitcher for Advance (6-1), giving up four runs (one earned) in six innings.

Josh Nimmo was the winning pitcher giving up one unearned run in three innings, and Johnny Vaughn totaled two hits, four RBIs and two runs for Bernie (4-3).

Maddison Altenthal did it all, gettign the pitching victory while hitting a home run and two doubles as the Cardinals cruised past the visiting Panthers.

Woodland (5-5) broke open the game with eight runs in the second inning as Altenthal, Hope Green, Lilley Long and Lizzy Kight all doubled to drive in runs.

Altenthal tossed three hitless innings, striking out six and walking two.

Mattison Webb took the loss for Meadow Heights (2-5), although she did have an RBI double.

Perryville Invitational

The Scott City boys finished fourth out of 12 teams as Kobe Hann won the 200-meter race in 52.68 seconds, the 400, 800, and 1,600 relay teams all won. Names were not provided for the relays.

St. Vincent's Caleb Roth and Jack Baer won the 800 and 1,600, respectively, and Saxony Lutheran's Christopher Palmer took home gold in the javelin.

On the girls side, Briann Jenkins led Saxony Lutheran to a sixth-place finish with a gold medal in the 200 and long jump.

Teammate Macy Morehead also finished first in discus.
