SD ROUNDUP: Phelps’ walk-off single gives Kelly baseball a 4-3 win over East Prairie; Johnson’s 15 strikeouts lifts NMCC softball over Cooter

BENTON, Mo. — Bryce Phelps led the Kelly baseball team to a 4-3 comeback win on Friday.

Phelps got the game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh, as the Hawks erased a four-run deficit in two innings of work.

After pitching lights out through five, East Prairie’s Carson Aycock struggled to finish the game. He went 6 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits on four earned runs and eight strikeouts.

Aycock also walked four batters.w

Leadoff man Devin Heuring scored two of the four runs for Kelly and had the only extra-base hit as well.

Drew Dirnberger, Peyton Eftink, Bryce Phelps, and Gavin Jansen all had RBI for the Hawks.

Lane Moody finished 2-for-3 for East Prairie, culminated by a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.

Bernie 22, Oak Ridge 0

OAK RIDGE, Mo. — Cassidy Freed threw a no-hitter for the Bernie softball team on Friday, against Oak Ridge.

Additionally, Freed also had run support, as the Lady Mules scored 22 runs, defeating Oak Ridge 22-0 in three innings.

Bernie clubbed 16 hits, including a 10-run third inning to come away with the win.

NEW MADRID, Mo. — Lily Johnson had quite the week for the New Madrid County Central softball team.

On Friday, Johnson threw her second-straight game of 15 strikeouts. She only gave up three hits and zero earned runs as well.

At the plate, Johnson was also productive. She went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Doniphan 5, Dexter 4

DEXTER, Mo. — Kaylee Davis went eight strong innings for the Doniphan softball team on Friday and picked up the win as the Donettes ousted Dexter 5-4, in Dexter, Mo.

Davis gave up five hits on zero earned runs and struck out eight.

Doniphan's defense was a problem for her, though, as the Donettes committed eight errors in the game.

GIRLS SOCCER

Saxony Lutheran 2, Sikeston 1

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Chelsie Moore netted the first regulation goal for the Sikeston girl’s soccer team on Friday.

Moore’s goal, though, was not enough, as the Lady Bulldogs fell to Saxony Lutheran in the semifinals of the Noon Optimist Girls Soccer Tournament, at Notre Dame Regional High School, in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Emma Brune accounted for both scores, as she scored, and also assisted on a goal for the Lady Crusaders.
