Nine area basketball players earn All-State honors for boys and girls

SIKESTON — Several local basketball players earned a spot on the All-State team, which got announced on Wednesday.

Sikeston senior Trey Jenkins earned a spot on the Class 4 list. Jenkins had a significant hand in the Bulldogs 25-1 record this season.

Jenkins averaged 16 .9 points per game and neared a double-double for the season — with eight rebounds.

In Class 1, Risco’s Nathan Burnett — the Tigers all-time leading scorer — earned a spot after leading his team to a district championship and a state quarterfinal appearance.

Portageville’s Bub Lance made the team for Class 2, while a pair of Oran Eagles earned spots as well. Jacob Shoemaker and Todd Priggel were both key pieces to the Eagles 28-2 record and a run to the state championship game.

Finally, for Class 3, East Prairie’s Derez Tipler and Charleston’s Blessin Kimble earned All-State honors as well. Charleston finished in third-place this past season, after losing to Vashon in the semifinals and defeating St. Paul Lutheran in the third-place game.

On the girls’ side, Oran’s Leah Cauble earned Class 2 Player of the Year, after breaking the all-time scoring record for the state. Cauble and the Lady Eagles advanced to the state quarterfinals before falling to Thayer.

Lastly, for Class 3, New Madrid County Central’s Alivia Hartman made the team.
