PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. - The No. 2 seeded Bernie Mules dominated the No. 7 seeded Cooter Wildcats from the get-go in the second Class 2, District 1 boys quarterfinal Saturday at Portageville High School.

Bernie (21-6) jumped out to a 38-3 lead after one quarter of play, increased its lead to 61-13 by halftime, and led 80-15 by the start of the fourth quarter on its way to a 93-37 victory against Cooter.

“We got out to a good start,” Bernie coach Brad Botsch said. “The kids came in and executed what we planned to do. We forced some turnovers and were able to convert our transition opportunities.”

Five Bernie players scored at least a dozen points.

Senior forward Josh Ellenburg paced Bernie with 17 points. Junior center Andrew Geohagan finished one point behind with 16 points. Senior guard Weston Zoll and junior guard Blake Harty both added 14 points.

Sophomore guard Landon Zoll knocked down four of the Mules’ 10 3-pointers treys to finish with 12 points.

Junior Jacob Watkins paced Cooter (9-13) with 19 points. He hit four of his five 3-pointers in the final eight minutes of regulation.
