DDD Roundup: Kennett, Clarkton, and Campbell boys basketball teams, Kennett girls basketball team collect wins

CLARKTON, Mo. - The Clarkton Reindeer varsity boys basketball team rallied from an eight-point deficit at the end of the third quarter to edge the visiting South Pemiscot Bulldogs 84-82 Tuesday night.

Clarkton’s Lee Matney sank two free throws with about five seconds left to break an 82-all tie and seal the win.

South Pemiscot led 27-26 after one quarter, 51-47 at halftime and 66-58 at the end of the third quarter before Clarkton rallied for the home victory.

A slew of players scored in double digits.

Izaya Gorman paced Clarkton with 23 points. Lee Matney added 20 points, Billy Riley contributed 15 points, Allen Matney tallied 12 points, and Rica Brown scored 11 points for the Reindeer.

Jamarea Rogers paced South Pemiscot with 20 points. Noah Willingham and DeCarlos Johnson added 17 points each. Lasilas Smith and Darius Johnson both finished with 11 points for the Bulldogs.

South Pemiscot (14-9) visits East Prairie Thursday.

No. 3 seeded Clarkton (12-12) plays No. 6 seeded Gideon in a Class 1, District 1 quarterfinal Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Gideon High School.

Kennett 80, Caruthersville 59

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. - The Kennett Indians varsity boys basketball team jumped out to a 25-14 lead after one quarter of play and led wire to wire as it beat the Caruthersville Tigers 80-59 Tuesday night.

Five players scored in double digits for Kennett. Quav’aun Harrell led the way with 20 points. Ben McMullan added 18 points, Jackson Henfling scored 14 points, Kobe Gates tallied 13 points, and La’Quez Pulliam contributed 10 points for the Indians.

Jermaine Hollywood paced Caruthersville with 11 points. Deandre Davis also finished in double digits for the Tigers with 10 points.

Both teams begin play in Class 3, District 1 at Charleston Saturday.

No. 6 seeded Caruthersville (9-12) takes on No. 3 seeded Twin Rivers (9-11) Saturday at 4 p.m.

No. 4 seeded Kennett (12-12) takes on No. 5 seeded East Prairie (13-10) Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

Campbell 75, Delta C-7 34

CAMPBELL, Mo. - The Campbell Camels varsity boys basketball team outscored the visiting Delta C-7 Chargers in every quarter on its way to a convincing 75-34 victory Tuesday night.

Campbell led 24-11 after one quarter, 43-23 at halftime, and 64-28 at the end of the third quarter on its way to its fourth straight victory.

Blake Fowler paced the Camels with 26 points. Kaden Siebert, who hit four of the Camels’ nine treys, added 22 more points. Ben Barnett also finished in double digits for Campbell with 11 points.

Ky’Ran Luster paced Delta C-7 with 11 points.

Campbell (16-6) closes out the regular season at Gideon Thursday.

Delta C-7 (7-14) hosts Cooter Thursday.

Kennett 59, Holcomb 43

KENNETT, Mo. - The Kennett Indians varsity girls basketball team beat the visiting Holcomb Hornets 59-43 Tuesday night.

Host Kennett led 14-10 after one quarter of play and increased its lead to 30-18 by halftime. Holcomb outscored Kennett 15-5 in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 35-33 by the start of the fourth quarter. Kennett responded by outscoring Holcomb 24-10 in the fourth period to secure a double digit win.

Kyra Jaco paced Kennett with 18 points. Caroline Patton added 14 points and Kaniya Madlock scored 11 points for the Indians.

Selena Burress fueled Holcomb’s offense with 15 points. Bailey Cupples finished one point behind with 14 points for the Hornets.

Kennett (10-13) visits Poplar Bluff Thursday.

No. 4 seeded Holcomb (11-11) takes on No. 5 seeded Senath-Hornersville in a Class 2, District 1 quarterfinal Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Portageville High School.
