MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Jackson girls basketball picks up conference win over Poplar Bluff

Alexis Allstun recorded 19 points as an evenly-distributed scoring pattern helped the Jackson girls basketball team fend off a 3-point crazy Poplar Bluff team in its 57-45 conference win on Thursday at Jackson High School.

Kalli Mayfield contributed 12 points for the Indians (15-3, 4-0 SEMO Conference), who were behind four points at the break. Mik Liley netted 10 points as Jackson outscored the Mules by 16 points in the second half to erase the deficit and obtain the victory.

Kiley Bess scored a game-high 25 points, including seven 3-pointers, and Emily Johnson posted 12 points, all from behind the arc, to pace Poplar Bluff (7-11, 2-1), which drained 11 treys in the loss.

Jackson is back in action Monday when it hosts another SEMO Conference matchup with Sikeston.

Megan Heisserer led all scorers with 19 points as a late-game surge lifted the Bulldogs past the Crusaders in the comeback conference home victory.

Julia Williams tossed in 11 points for Notre Dame (14-5, 4-1 SEMO Conference), which was behind by six points heading into the final frame. Riley Burger poured in 10 points as the Bulldogs walloped the Crusaders in the final eight minutes, outscoring the visitors by 14 points to post their fourth conference win of the season.

Leah Cauble added another team to her growing list of teams she has outscored individually with a game-high 46 points as the Eagles soared in the conference victory on the road over the Blue Jays.

Jessie Long accumulated a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points for Oran (14-5, 6-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference), which flew out to a 43-25 lead at halftime. Katie Webb grabbed 12 rebounds and Kaylee Payne tallied nine assists, eight rebounds and six steals to help propel the Eagles to victory.

Blake Bollinger compiled another double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds and dished out six assists as the Panthers were able to pull it out in a vengeful victory over the Wildcats to win the Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament at Zalma High School.

Freshman Chase Conrad chipped in 14 points for Meadow Heights (10-8), which maintained a six-point advantage at halftime but fell behind by one point going into the final eight minutes. Freshman Tristen Mayfield added 13 points as the Panthers rallied in the final quarter and outscored the Wildcats by four points to clinch their fourth-straight tournament title.

"My kids just really kept battling," Meadow Heights coach Corey Brownsberger said. "We started a lot better tonight."

Grant Koenig drained a game-high 26 points for Leopold (6-12). Sophomore Landon Dailey sank 21 points before fouling out for the Wildcats, who had beaten Meadow Heights 67-53 a week ago on the Panthers' home court.

Zalma defeated Marquand-Zion 78-43 for third place earlier in the evening. No additional information was provided for that game, however.
