Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament

Fifth-seeded Chaffee pulled the only upset in Saturday's opening round of the Scott-Mississippi Conference Tournament at Oran High School as the Red Devils nipped fourth-seeded Charleston 48-41.

Bailey Wiseman scored 13 points for Chaffee (10-7), which held a six-point lead at halftime. The Red Devils padded their cushion by four points heading into the final frame before the Blue Jays attempted a rally that ultimately fell short.

Ashanti Jones bucketed a game-high 16 points to sustain Charleston (12-7) in the loss. The Blue Jays are scheduled to face eighth-seeded East Prairie at 4 p.m. Monday in the consolation semifinals following the Eagles' lopsided loss to top-seeded Oran in the first quarterfinal of the day.

The host Eagles obliterated East Prairie 102-31, led by Leah Cauble with a game-high 42 points. Cauble also notched six rebounds and four assists for the Eagles, who soared out to a 46-point lead at the break. Taylor Lowes chipped in 12 points for Oran (11-5) and Kaylee Payne compiled 11 points, five assists and five steals. Jessie Long also had 10 points and five steals for the victors.

MaKenzie Williams paced East Prairie (3-10) with 11 points.

Oran is slated to meet Chaffee at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the semifinals.

On the bottom half of the bracket, second-seeded Scott County Central disposed of seventh-seeded Delta 81-49. Bre'Asia Jones did most of the heavy lifting for the Bravettes with a game-high 34 points. Hannah Bode contributed 12 points for SCC (13-3), which stymied the Bobcats in the first and last quarters en route to victory.

Freshmen Kendall Holweg and Ashley White combined for 26 points with 13 apiece for Delta (6-11).

The other quarterfinal of the day between third-seeded Kelly and sixth-seeded Scott City was postponed due to the snowstorm that moved into the area on Saturday. As of now, the game has not been rescheduled.
