FRIDAY CANCELLATIONS: Winter weather cancels numerous high school games

Inclement winter weather in the forecast led to the cancellation of most high school athletic events Friday night.

Among the cancellations was the SEMO Conference varsity boys basketball game between Cape Girardeau Central and New Madrid County Central, which was to be played in Cape Girardeau. The game has been rescheduled for Monday at Cape Central, with the JV contest preceding at 6 p.m. followed by varsity action at approximately 7:30 p.m. Another SEMO Conference showdown between Kennett and Notre Dame was also called off and has been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 30 with a JV tipoff time of 5 p.m. in Cape Girardeau.

A notable cancellation for Saturday was the Fourth Annual Jackson Lady Indians Showcase at Jackson High School. The five-game event was to include Woodland, Naylor, Cape Central, Park Hills Central, Jackson, Cor Jesu Academy, Oran, Parkway South, Dexter and Miller Career Academy. As of now there are no plans in the making to reschedule the event. The host Indians, however, will host Cor Jesu Academy in a varsity-only contest at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21. Notre Dame girls have also rescheduled their game with Cor Jesu Academy for Friday, Jan. 25 in the suburban St. Louis area.

Other boys' basketball games that were postponed on Friday and have been rescheduled include Meadow Heights at Woodland (Thursday, Feb. 7), Clearwater at Van Buren and East Carter at Scott City (both on Monday, Feb. 11).
