MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Notre Dame girls basketball hands Park Hills Central first loss of the season

The Notre Dame girls basketball team rang in the new year on a high note. It did something that no other team had been able to do last year: the Bulldogs defeated Park Hills Central 70-61 and handed the Rebels their first loss of the season on Thursday in Park Hills, Missouri.

Julia Williams led the way with 17 points for Notre Dame, which had not been on the court in over two weeks following the Bulldogs' second-place finish in the 23rd Annual First State Community Bank Holiday Classic. Riley Burger and Megan Heisserer combined for 28 points with 14 apiece as the Bulldogs (10-3) used a strong second quarter to dispose of the Rebels, outscoring the hosts by 12 points in that frame and taking a 13-point lead at halftime. Jenny Le added 12 points for the Bulldogs, who added one point to their cushion going into the final quarter where Central rallied but ultimately fell nine points short to suffer the loss.

Sophia Horton scored a game-high 27 points for the Rebels (12-1), who were fresh off a championship title in their own holiday tournament.

Notre Dame will have another week's hiatus from the hardwood and will be back on the road on January 10 against SEMO Conference foe Sikeston.
