MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Delta upsets Perryville in Woodland Invitational Tournament to set up title matchup against Oak Ridge

Isaiah Thomas drained 23 points as the fourth-seeded Delta boys basketball team pulled a big 72-64 semifinal upset over top-seeded Perryville on Thursday to reach Friday's championship game of the Woodland Invitational Tournament in Marble Hill, Missouri.

Colby Crader recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Bobcats, who pounced out to a three-point lead at the break. Damon Bartels pitched in 16 points as Delta (3-0) extended its lead to 10 points going into the final frame before the Pirates attempted to rally but could only erase the deficit by two points to ultimately falter in that endeavor.

Chase Brown poured in a game-high 27 points to pace Perryville (1-1) and Jeff Reisenbichler tossed in 19 points.

The Bobcats will take on second-seeded Oak Ridge at 8 p.m. Friday for the championship. The BlueJays flew into the finals with a 73-53 victory over third-seeded host Woodland in Thursday's final game of the evening. David Layton led all scorers with 27 points before fouling out for Oak Ridge (2-0), which enjoyed a 17-point advantage at the intermission. Zach LeGrand added 17 points, including four three-pointers, as the BlueJays padded two more points to their cushion entering the last quarter.

Paul Duncan sank 20 points to pace Woodland (1-1) in the loss. The Cardinals will go up against the Pirates at 6:30 p.m. Friday for third place.

Seventh-seeded Meadow Heights dealt a 67-43 upset over sixth-seeded Zalma on the consolation side of the bracket. Blake Bollinger posted his third double-double in as many games with 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Panthers to victory. Jacob Barks pitched in 18 points as Meadow Heights (2-1) was up by 19 points at the start of the fourth quarter. Tristen Mayfield tallied nine points, six rebounds and five assists for the Panthers.

Mayson Casey scored a game-high 30 points for Zalma (0-2).

Meadow Heights will take on fifth-seeded Greenville at 5 p.m. Friday for the consolation championship. The Bears (1-2) beat eighth-seeded Leopold 59-50 in the other consolation semifinal of the night. No box score was provided for that game, however.

Oran Invitational Tournament

Senior Jacob Shoemaker was a one-man wrecking ball, scoring a whopping 48 points, half of which came from behind the arc, for the top-seeded Eagles in their 74-61 semifinal victory over fifth-seeded Kelly during the 63rd Annual Oran Invitational Tournament.

Todd Priggel finished with 13 points for Oran (2-0), which flew out to a 45-26 lead at halftime before the third-quarter stalemate. The Hawks attempted a rally in the fourth quarter but could not overcome a solid first-half performance from the Eagles.

Peyton Eftink led with 16 points and Drew Dirnberger added 13 points for Kelly (1-1).

Oran will take on Scott-Mississippi Conference foe Scott County Central at 8 p.m. for the championship. The second-seeded Braves avoided an upset from a determined sixth-seeded Richland team and eked out a 61-56 squeaker in the second semifinal of the evening. Garry Wilkerson sank a game-high 37 points to lead the Braves. Daniel Petty scored 20 points to pace the Rebels (1-1), who will face Kelly at 6:30 p.m. for third place.

In the consolation semifinals, fourth-seeded Advance cruised past eighth-seeded Bell City 85-30 behind 25 points from Jack Below to clinch their first win of the season.

Hunter Curtis added 15 points for the Hornets (1-2), who will take on third-seeded Chaffee in the consolation championship at 5 p.m. Friday.

Evan Smith led the Cubs (0-2) with 11 points.

Riley Burger and Julia Williams combined to score half of the points for the fifth-seeded Bulldogs in their victory over the sixth-seeded hosts for the consolation championship of the SEMO Conference Tournament.

Burger and Williams netted 13 points apiece for Notre Dame (3-1), which held the host Bulldogs scoreless in the first and final frames on its way to victory. Megan Heisserer pitched in 12 points for the victorious Bulldogs.
