MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Oran girls basketball tops SCC in conference slugfest

Senior Leah Cauble had another explosive night with a game-high 39 points and notched nine rebounds and three assists to lead the Oran girls basketball team to its second win in as many days in the 96-60 conference victory over Scott County Central on Tuesday in Morley, Mo.

Jessie Long recorded a double-double with 31 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles, who flew out to a 60-35 lead at halftime. Junior Kaylee Payne also posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and dished out three assists for Oran (2-0, 1-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference), who outscored the hosts by 11 points in the second half to come away with the win.

Bre’Asia Jones finished with 20 points to pace the Bravettes (0-1, 0-1) in their season-debut loss.

Emma Brune drained a game-high 28 points as the Crusaders opened their season with a solid conference victory over the Bulldogs at home.

Briann Jenkins netted 13 points for Saxony Lutheran (1-0, 1-0 SEMO Conference), which held the Bulldogs to single digits in the first half and enjoyed a 21-point cushion at the intermission.

Jagger Sadler bucketed five more points individually than the entire Tigers squad was able to muster as a team as the Red Devils burned the guests in both teams’ first game of the season.

Douglas Lands sank 15 points and Landon Tenkhoff pitched in 13 points for Chaffee (1-0, 1-0 Mississippi Valley Conference), which maintained a massive 44-9 advantage at the break. Wyatt Parker and Breven Yarbro chipped in 11 points apiece for the Red Devils, who held the Tigers to single digits in each quarter, including a scoreless final frame.

Luke Emmett had five points before fouling out to sustain Marquand-Zion (0-1, 0-1).
