MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Jackson volleyball beats Sikeston to claim conference crown

Hannah Shinn put down nine kills as Jackson volleyball clinched the regular-season conference championship of the SEMO Conference North Division with the 25-13, 25-21 win over Sikeston.

Mackenzie Stoner slammed eight kills for Jackson (9-1, 4-0 SEMO North Conference) while Emily Scott added five kills and two aces. Lainey Broussard tallied 20 assists, two kills and two aces for the Indians.

Sikeston dropped to 3-11 overall and finished 1-3 in the conference.

Notre Dame 12 25 25, Poplar Bluff 25 16 22

Alexa Clark nailed 12 kills as the Bulldogs bounced back after dropping the first set to pick up the conference victory at home over the Mules.

Rachel Essner dished out 15 assists for Notre Dame (6-6-1, 2-1 SEMO North Conference) and Megan Heisserer notched 25 digs.

Poplar Bluff fell to 7-6 overall with the loss and bumped down to 1-2 in the conference.

Kaileigh Dirden nailed a game-high six kills to lead the Rams in the conference sweep of the Eagles at home.

Carlie Estes served three aces and Chloe Clayton recorded eight digs for Scott City (7-4-2, 1-1 SEMO South Conference).

Kaylee Payne tallied eight digs, four aces and two kills to pace Oran (4-9, 1-2). Cassie Cochran also had eight digs and Katelyn Streeter added five digs for the Eagles, who also got two blocks from Savannah Below.

Brittany Showmaker nailed seven kills to lead the BlueJays in the sweep of the Bears at home.

Paige Glueck served four aces for Oak Ridge (12-6-2) and Taylor Seyer added 16 assists to go along with her three aces.

Greenville dropped to 3-8-6 with the loss.

Meadow Heights 25 25, South Iron 22 11

Dinah Wahlers slammed 11 kills to lead the hosts to the straight-set victory in the battle of the Panthers.

Makayla Smith contributed six kills and Gracie Cook added five kills for Meadow Heights (8-7-1). Bonnie Hanners dished out 21 assists for the victorious Panthers.

South Iron lowered its record to 6-8-2 with the loss.

Woodland 25 20 25, Cape Central 9 25 23

Tiana Wiseman finished with 12 kills, six blocks and six digs as the host Cardinals avoided a scare from the Tigers (4-6-1) to fly away with the win in the three-set thriller.

Addie Johnson posted a double-double with 16 assists and 12 digs and also put down four kills for Woodland (12-6-1). Ally Whitener tallied four assists and four digs for the Cardinals and Emma Brown pitched in 13 digs and five kills.

Kyla Beel recorded seven kills and two digs to lead the Wildcats in the easy road win over the Cubs (3-11-1).

Freshman Paige Davis provided 14 assists and three kills for Leopold (9-4-3). Lindsey Duckworth served eight aces and notched five digs for the Wildcats while Patience VanderMierden contributed four assists, two kills and two digs.

Eagle Ridge wins two

The Eagle Ridge Christian School remained undefeated and notched its 11th consecutive win of the season with a pair of victories at home.

The Eagles swept Liberty Christian Academy of Wright City 25-11, 25-16 in their first match of the evening. Jaci Crank recorded six kills and Rachel Margrabe tallied six digs for the Eagles while Sarah Jackson added seven digs, five assists and two kills.

The Eagles then prevailed over Rivers of Life Christian School of Granite City, Illinois, 25-11, 25-12. Margrabe once again led with five kills and five digs and Olivia Lambert contributed six aces and five kills. Sydney Gartman finished with nine assists, four kills and four aces for Eagle Ridge (11-0).

SOFTBALL

Jackson 10, Poplar Bluff 3

Ashlyn Prince doubled twice and drove in three runs as a mid-game surge allowed the Indians to come away with the win at home over the Mules.

Molly Martin pitched a complete game to get the win for Jackson (9-7), allowing three unearned runs.

Lauren Alexander also went the distance in the circle to suffer the loss for Poplar Bluff (7-9). She surrendered seven earned runs and recorded three strikeouts and four walks.

Sydney Walker blasted a home run and drove in four runs as a week's hiatus from the field didn't appear to faze the Red Devils in their road win over the Crusaders.

Bryanna Hale also tossed six innings to be tagged with the loss for Saxony Lutheran (1-9). She surrendered nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits and seven walks and had one strikeout.

T.J. Albertson recorded a hat trick to lead the Tigers to the lopsided victory in the opening round of pool play of the 11th Annual Hillsboro Tournament.

T.K. Ayers sank two goals for Cape Girardeau Central (6-4). Nate Albertson, Zach Moore, Blake Ritter and Devon Tiemann also all scored for the Tigers, whose other goal came from a Festus own goal (0-7-1).

The Tigers resume pool play action today against DeSoto.

Sikeston 2, Notre Dame 1

Alfonso Vera netted the game-winning goal as the hosts prevailed in the conference battle of the Bulldogs.

Trey Drake sank the earlier goal for Sikeston (7-7, 2-1 SEMO Conference).

The Bulldogs won five events to best the host Mules in the three-team meet at the Black River Coliseum.

Nicholas Hux and Noel Keran placed first in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, respectively, for Notre Dame, which also won all three of the relays.

Cody Griggs won the 200 freestyle for Saxony Lutheran and Joshua Wydra was first in the 100 backstroke to pace the Crusaders.
