SD ROUNDUP: Kelly softball edges Cape Central; Sikeston soccer loses 3-1 to Perryville

DEXTER, Mo. — The Dexter volleyball team won their second-straight match Wednesday night, rolling past Richland 25-10, 25-9.

Alexa Werneck and Blair Rodgers each had four kills apiece while Natalie Sitze led the Bearcats with four aces and five digs.

Dexter (2-3) will take on Stoddard County rival Bernie Thursday night.


Perryville 3, Sikeston 1

PERRYVILLE, Mo. —The Pirates built a three-goal lead and held off the Bulldogs to pick up the win at home.

Jake Unterreiner and Austin Welk scored first-half goals for Perryville (6-5), and Stanley Volansky tacked on a goal in the second half for a comfortable three-goal lead. All three players finished with an assist.

Pirates goalkeeper Ty Baudendistel stopped three shots.

Alfonso Vera sank the lone goal for Sikeston (5-6) off an assist from Robert Comstock to pace the Bulldogs.


Doniphan 3, Sikeston 1

DONIPHAN, Mo. — Kaylee Davis proved to be too much for Sikeston to handle on Wednesday.

The Dons starting pitcher threw a complete game, giving up three hits on one earned runs, as Doniphan beat the Bulldogs 3-1 at Doniphan High School.

Wednesday turned out to be a pitching duel, as both teams combined for nine hits.

All three Doniphan runs came on Sikeston (2-4) errors. The Bulldogs committed four for the game.

Overall, Sikeston’s defense did not help out Abby Cooper — who pitched very well. Cooper gave up six hits on one earned run and threw 52 percent of pitches for strikes.

Sikeston takes the diamond on Friday at East Prairie. First pitch is at 4:30 p.m.

Kelly 12, Cape Central 10

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Hitting was contagious for the Kelly softball team on Wednesday, as the Hawks defeated Cape Central 13-10.

Kelly finished with 17 hits in the game, as Lilly Jones and Alaney Moore each sparked the lineup with four hits each. Jones had one RBI and three runs scored, while Moore had three RBI and three runs scored as well.

On the mound, Alyssa Tidwell struggled to retire batters.

Tidwell three a complete game, but gave up 18 hits on 10 earned runs. She also struck out six batters.

For the Tigers, Breauna Evans went 3-4 with five RBI, but it proved to not be enough for the host-Cape Central.

Kelly (5-4) plays Saxony Lutheran, at home, today at 4 p.m.
