CAMPBELL, Mo. - The Campbell Camels varsity volleyball team displayed its fair share of firepower Tuesday night.

The Camels recorded 13 kills as it pounded its way past Kennett 25-12, 25-17.

“We passed the ball well, which allowed us to run some offense,” Campbell coach Gentry Vancil said. “Everything we can get up we are trying to hit. Our offense ran well tonight because of our good passing.”

Campbell jumped out to a 9-2 lead and led by at least five points the rest of the first set.

Kennett enjoyed an early 4-2 lead in the second set before Campbell moved ahead 14-8 and led by at least three the rest of the way.

The Camels pounded out 10 of its kills in the final set.

“All of our girls can hit, including our setters,” Vancil said. “They do more jobs than they have to on the court, just like Kennett. I also thought Kennett did a good job moving the ball around on offense.”

Campbell, which beat Portageville 25-19, 25-23 in its season opener Monday, improved to 2-0. Campbell hosts Cooter Thursday.

“Tonight was a quicker game for us, which is what we need,” Vancil said. “I like playing teams like Kennett that play the tempo of game we need to be playing.”
