Southland 14-year-old Jenna Gibson has participated in her fair share of softball competitions as she nears her sophomore year of high school.

The right-handed pitcher, who has played softball in 14 states against teams from 28 states, is preparing to take her game to a 15th state in a few weeks.

Gibson is slated to compete in the Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championship in Huntington Beach, California, July 29 - Aug. 4 as a member of the Oklahoma Athletics Premier 14U Madden team.

It won’t be the first time Gibson, who started playing softball when she was four-years-old, has taken her game to a national stage. Gibson has already had the opportunity to compete in over 25 D-1 prospect camps and has been part of summer teams that claimed two World Series championships and five state titles.

“I’ve played everywhere,” she said. “This was my first season playing with Oklahoma Athletics. I started playing with them in the fall and have continued to play with them this summer.”

Gibson currently supports a 1.86 ERA this summer and has a 0.91 ERA in her last 10 games.

She will have one additional opportunity to fine-tune her skills before leaving for California. Gibson is slated to begin play in the Junior Olympic Cup in St. Louis this week.

“I played three weeks straight weeks with maybe a one-day break in June,” Gibson said. “The older you get the better the competition is so you have to continue practicing.”

Gibson said she would like to thank her first pitching instructor Chris Wake; mentor TJ Fletch; Oklahoma Athletics Premier head coach Brent Johnson for asking her to pitch with them at the PGF National Championship; Fat City Angels coaches Billy Finley, Scot George, Kevin McCaig and Claire Clark; and Oklahoma Athletics coaches Brian Madden, Tim White, Richard Norvelle and Lyric Cabral for helping her develop as a softball player.
