STANDARD-DEMOCRAT COACHING ROUNDUP: Several area schools add new coaches

SIKESTON — With the summer just beginning and local sports teams a ways away from starting their respective seasons, comes a carousel of coaching changes.

A new voice and vision are used to help struggling programs rise to the top and with that, here is the list of coaching changes for our local teams:

Dexter named Aaron Pixley its new head football coach. He will replace Kevin Goltra.

Pixley will also be leaving his role as athletic director for the Bearcats, as former boys basketball coach Josh Dowdy will take over as his replacement.

Drew Pixley will head the baseball program at Dexter, as he replaces Brian Becker. Becker stepped down.

In basketball, Lloyd Hyten is replacing Dowdy as the boys' basketball coach for Dexter.

In volleyball, Starla Pulley becomes the new head coach at Dexter. She replaces Carmen Morgan.

Dexter also made a change to its girls' tennis program, as Kristi Boles takes over as head coach.

At New Madrid County Central, Jerry Winberry was named the new athletic director for the Eagles, as he replaced Laura Ort.

Former Charleston and NMCC boys basketball coach Lennis McFerren takes-over the reigns for another stint at NMCC as well, replacing Travis Day.

On the girls’ side, Toby Heeb replaces BJ Stone as Eagles head man. Stone will be the junior high girls' basketball and assistant high school girls basketball coach at Portageville.

The softball program also made changes, as Jake Baehr takes-over for Bobbi Rae Smith.

At Scott County Central, Matt Limbaugh stepped down as head coach of the girls' basketball and baseball teams. He accepted a job in Daphne, Alabama, at Bayside Academy where he will be the pitching coach for the baseball team and the junior high boys' basketball coach as well.

Limbaugh’s replacement is still forthcoming for both sports.

East Prairie also makes a change to its girls' basketball program, as Ron Riddle replaces Steven Douglas.

Andrea Sanders takes over as the Eagles cheerleading head coach as well.

Travis Shearer was named the new head softball coach at Portageville too.

There have also been many assistant coaching, and junior high coaching changes at different programs as well.

For Sikeston, Kollin Groves was named an assistant coach for football, girls basketball and boys and girls track and field.

Jacob May and Kit Eifert will be assistant boys and girls track and field coaches. Eifert will be an assistant on the junior high football team as well. Ben Cline will also join him as an assistant.

Promoted to an assistant position on the volleyball team, was Emily Pullen.

Kasey Reeder-Voorhees was named an assistant cheerleading coach, while Betsy Colwick will take over the junior high boys and girls track programs as its new head coach.

At East Prairie, Jennifer Smith will assist Riddle for the girls' basketball team. Jade Uthoff was named an assistant coach for the softball program as well.

Kelly Goodding will become the junior high volleyball head coach at East Prairie, while the cheerleading program will be headed by Emily Garner and Jamie McCutchen as well.

At Portageville, Steve Rogers takes over the junior high baseball program as its next head coach. Jamie Massey will also assist the boys' basketball team and junior high football team too.

In baseball, Lee Wallace will join the Portageville baseball staff as an assistant coach.
