Charleston and Richland both finish with medalists at the Class 1-2 state track meet

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Charleston and Richland both finished with individual medalists in the finals of the Class 1 and 2 state track and field championships on Saturday.

Charleston’s Jeremy Tucker finished in third place of the high jump with a leap of six feet, four inches, while Tyrese Tate earned fifth place honors of the 200-meter dash. Tate finished with a time of 22.78 seconds in the event.

For Richland, Hunter Walker capped off his outstanding week with another medal. Walker finished in sixth place of the 100-meter dash, at 11.46 seconds, to gain his second medal of the weekend.

Hayti also finished off an impressive weekend, as the Indians finished in sixth place with 32 total points.

The Indians did most of their damage in the relays, as the boys’ relay teams medaled in all three finals. The Indians won in the 4x200-meter relay, with Jerrod Covington, Tylor Wooden, Ivory Winters, and Jaden Wilburn finishing with a time of one minute, 31 seconds.

The Indians also finished in third place of the 4x100-meter relay, and fourth in the 4x400-meter relay — at 44.71 seconds and three minutes, 31 seconds respectively.

On the girls’ side of things, Caruthersville took home the bulk of the medals, as the Tigers finished in third place with 38 total team points.

The Tigers won both the 4x100-meter and 4x200-meter events, with times of 50.37 seconds and one minute, 45 seconds respectively.

In individual action, Malden’s Aylexus Leshay became a state champion in the triple jump, as she finished with a leap of 36 feet, 11 inches.

Caruthersville’s Kamya Battles made a name for herself in the 200-meter and 400-meter dash events, as she took home third and eighth place in each contest. Battles’ times were 26.51 seconds in the 200-meter dash and one minute, three seconds in the 400-meter dash.
