MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Notre Dame baseball advances to district championship

Will Ferrell tossed a one-hit shutout as second-seeded Notre Dame baseball cruised past No. 3 Kennett in a Class 4 District 1 Tournament semifinal Monday in Sikeston, Missouri.

Ferrell notched 12 strikeouts with no walks for the Bulldogs (16-12), who took an early lead with three runs in the first two innings.

Layne Robinson and Reid James led the offense, notching two hits apiece.

Zane Wallace suffered the loss for Kennett (16-9), surrendering three earned runs on four hits and one walk in one inning.

Notre Dame will face top-seeded Sikeston in the championship at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Sikeston 15, Perryville 6

Jerome Simpson doubled and drove in three runs but the fourth-seeded Pirates were unable to stop a sixth-inning rally from the top-seeded and host Bulldogs and suffered a season-ending loss in other Class 4 District 1 semifinal.

Chase Brown pitched 2 1/3 innings to be marked with the loss for Perryville (14-10). He gave up six earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Will Gilmer was the winning pitcher for Sikeston (16-9-1). He threw 5 2/3 innings and gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits, struck out five batters and also walked five.

Ethan Puchbauer drew a walk-off walk as the fourth-seeded BlueJays claimed a dramatic win over the fifth-seeded Giants in the opening round of the Class 1 District 3 Tournament in Annapolis, Missouri.

Jordan Barker retired all three batters during the final inning to come away with the win for Oak Ridge (6-16), who will take on top-seeded Valley (Caledonia) at 4 p.m. today in the semifinals.

Tanner King doubled, the only extra-base hit of the game, but the fifth-seeded Crusaders were shutout in their season-ending loss to the top-seeded Bulldogs in the Class 3 District 3 Tournament semifinal at Jefferson High School in Festus, Missouri.

Austin Fritsche went three innings on the mound to sustain the loss for Saxony Lutheran (16-7). He allowed four earned runs on three hits, walked six batters and had no strikeouts.

Hayden Roney pitched a complete game and recorded 12 strikeouts for West County (15-4).

Landon Tenkhoff had another all-around big day, blasting a two-run home run and going the distance on the mound to lead the top-seeded Red Devils in their six-inning victory over the fourth-seeded Panthers in the semifinals of the Class 2 District 3 Tournament in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

Tenkhoff recorded seven strikeouts and one walk and gave up one unearned run for Chaffee (20-1), which will face No. 2 Valle Catholic in the championship at 4:30 p.m. today.

Trae Davis lasted 2 2/3 innings on the mound to be charged with the loss for Meadow Heights (10-8). He allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits, walked two batters and struck out one.

Three different players netted a goal as the second-seeded Indians brushed past the No. 3 Jaguars in the Class 4 District 1 Tournament semifinal in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Piper Guilliams, Grace Pehle and Mik Liley all scored, and Lauren Welker picked up an assist for Jackson (16-4), which will face top-seeded Northwest in the championship at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Emily Hermann made two saves in goal to get the shutout.

Megan Heisserer recorded two goals and two assists to lead the top-seeded Bulldogs to victory over the fourth-seeded Lancers in the Class 2 District 1 Tournament semifinal in Perryville, Missouri.

Kristin Tarno contributed one goal and one assist for Notre Dame (19-3-1). Shelby Bauwens and Bailey Beussink sank the other goals for the Bulldogs while Mary Dirnberger and Livia Wunderlich provided one assist apiece.

Perryville 3, Fredericktown 2

Emma King netted the game-winning goal with 97 seconds remaining to lift the second-seeded Pirates to victory over the third-seeded Black Cats in the Class 2 District 1 Tournament.

Leah Buerck and Kirstin Jannin had the other goals, both of which came during the first half, for Perryville (15-4-1).

The Pirates will face top-seeded Notre Dame at 6 p.m. Wednesday for the district title. The Bulldogs defeated Perryville 3-1 on May 1 in the two teams' only other encounter thus far.

Kelly 1, Carnahan 0

The host Hawks moved into tonight's semifinals of the Class 1 District 1 Tournament after fifth-seeded Carnahan forfeited its quarterfinal game.

Kelly (1-21-2) will play top-seeded St. Vincent at 5:30 p.m.
