SD ROUNDUP: Oran, Scott City baseball win district championships; Chaffee, Notre Dame advance

ORAN, Mo. — Layne Johnson pitched six innings of two-hit, one run ball, as Oran defeated Bell City 8-1 in the Class 1, District 2 Tournament championship on Monday in Oran.

Johnson finished with 15 strikeouts to just three walks.

He also produced at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with three runs scored. The Eagles received a significant contribution from Drew Reischman as well, as he went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI — which led the team.

Oran (14-8) will take on the winner of Cooter and Gideon/Risco — which will be played Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., on Monday, May 21.

Chaffee 11, Meadow Heights 1

ST. GENEVIEVE, Mo. — Chaffee pounded-out 12 hits on Monday in its Class 2, District 3 Tournament semifinal victory over Meadow Heights in St. Genevieve, Mo.

The Red Devils defeated Meadow Heights 11-1, as three Chaffee players had multiple RBI games. Gabe Henson went 2-for-5 with three RBI, Landon Tenkhoff went 1-for-3 with a home run and a pair of RBI, and Kade Sullivan went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI as well.

For Chaffee, Tenkhoff not only delivered at the plate but on the mound too. He threw a complete game, giving up just four hits on zero earned runs, and struck out seven.

Chaffee (20-1) will take on the home team, Valle Catholic (20-9) in the Class 2, District 3 Tournament finals on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., in St. Genevieve, Mo.

Scott City 14, Portageville 4

CHARLESTON, Mo. — Scott City defeated Portageville in the Class 3, District 1 Tournament championship on Monday in Charleston, Mo.

The Rams avenge last season’s district championship loss to Portageville — the Bulldogs won 13-0 — and will advance to the Class 3 Sectionals. Scott City will face the winner of Clearwater and Doniphan, who play on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., in the Class 3, District 2 Tournament championship.

Notre Dame 7, Kennett 0

SIKESTON — Notre Dame defeated Kennett on Monday night in a Class 4, District 1 Tournament semifinal matchup at VFW Stadium in Sikeston.

The Bulldogs will take on Sikeston in the Class 4, District 1 Tournament championship game on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., at VFW Stadium. Sikeston has already won two games against Notre Dame this season.
