MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Oran softball drops Kennett 8-4

Claire Ramsey hit a double and drove in three runs as the Oran softball team started strong to pick up a big 8-4 win over traditional powerhouse Kennett on Tuesday.

Alyssa Spane went the distance in the circle to come away with the win for the host Eagles, who improved to 8-1 with the victory. Spane recorded four strikeouts and two walks.

Kaylee Payne had a triple and Leah Cauble contributed a double and two RBIs for the Eagles.

Hailee Potts tossed a complete game to suffer the loss for the Indians (7-4). Six runs were earned and she had one strikeout and one walk.

Caroline Byers blasted a solo home run for Kennett and Sydni McAtee added a double and two RBIs.

Both teams will be competing in the inaugural Old Settlement Frontier Days Tournament at Ste. Genevieve today. Oran begins pool play at 4 p.m. against the host Dragons followed by a 5:30 p.m. game with Arcadia Valley.

Sophomore Sierra Woodall had an explosive day at the plate, blasting a home run, a triple and a double to drive in four runs and lead the BlueJays over the Redskins across the river in Wolf Lake, Illinois.

Jordan Layton was the winning pitcher and went 4-for-5 at the plate for Oak Ridge (5-9).

Hannah McLane reached base five times at bat, including a double, for the BlueJays in a game that saw a total of 55 hits.

The Pirates needed an extra inning but kept their unbeaten conference record intact thanks to a walk-off run delivered by Jerome Simpson in the eight-inning nailbiter.

Devyn Terbrak went the distance on the mound to clinch the win for Perryville (8-7, 2-0 JCAA Conference-Large Schools Division). The two runs were unearned and he recorded a whopping 18 strikeouts with just one walk.

Tyler Isaacson suffered the loss for Hillsboro (5-6, 2-1).

Hunter Hiett hit a double but the Tigers could not hold off a determined Bulldogs squad and fell in five innings in the conference loss on the road.

Drake Mills lasted 3 1/3 innings on the mound to be tagged with the loss for Cape Girardeau Central (7-7, 1-4 SEMO Conference). He relinquished 10 runs (two earned) on nine hits, struck out two batters and walked one.

Ben Ray pitched four innings to get the win for Sikeston (5-8-1, 3-3). He gave up three earned runs on four hits, walked two batters and struck out one.

Bryce Bays doubled twice among his successful three times at bat and drove in five runs to lead the Bulldogs' offense.

Lane Baremore blasted a grand slam and Dawson Lindgren belted a three-run home run as the host Panthers to easily disposed of the winless Braves in five innings.

Trey Davis was the winning pitcher for Meadow Heights (7-6). He went three innings and gave up no runs on one hit, struck out seven and walked four.

It was the fifth-straight loss for Scott County Central (0-5).

Leah Buerck recorded two goals and one assist as the Pirates sailed to their fifth-straight win in the conference victory at home over the Tigers.

Kirstin Jannin contributed two assists and one goal for Perryville (9-2-1, 3-0 JCAA Conference). Kyla Laurentius and Sydney Spears provided the other goals for the Pirates and Chloe Bergman dished out an assist.

Goalkeeper Adrienne Weibrecht had four saves.

Festus fell to 3-8 overall and dropped to 1-3 in the conference with the loss.

Notre Dame 2, Carbondale (Ill.) 0

Lauren Boswell and Hannah Miller each netted the goals late in the second half to allow the Bulldogs to prowl away with the win over the Terriers.

Notre Dame (8-3) is back on the road Saturday when it travels to St. Louis to take on Bishop DuBourg for a 2 p.m. varsity-only contest.

Carbondale dropped to 6-6 on the season with the loss.

Saxony Lutheran 3, The Principia 0

Emma Brune netted one goal and had an assist to lead the Crusaders in the road win over the Panthers in the St. Louis area.

Addi Beussink and Briann Jenkins sank the additional goals for Saxony Lutheran (8-3).

Alice Hogendobler got the shutout in the post for the Crusaders.

St. Vincent 9, Kelly 0

The Indians recorded their fifth consecutive shutout in the romp of the winless Hawks at home.

St. Vincent upped its overall record to 11-2 with the win while Kelly decreased its record to 0-14-2.

Luke Daniel shot a seven-over-par 43 as the Crusaders tied the Tigers for third place in the quad match at the Kennett Country Club.

Nathan McCoy carded a 49 to pace Cape Girardeau Central. Blake Carr earned medalist honors with a four-over-par 40 for the host Indians, who won the match.
