SD ROUNDUP: Sikeston baseball team drops two Saturday at Midwest Classic

ST. CHARLES, Mo. — The Sikeston Bulldogs baseball team still remains winless after dropping a pair of games on Saturday in the Midwest Classic.

Francis Howell 11, Sikeston 4

In the opener, Sikeston fell behind early allowing six runs in the top of the first inning as Francis Howell pounded out six hits, including a 2-RBI triple from Joel Hagley.

After allowing two more runs in the top of the second, Sikeston finally got on the board in the bottom of the second with Byce Bays and Nate Self each scoring runs on Francis Howell errors.

The Bulldogs added single tallies in the sixth and seventh but could never mount a big rally.

Noah Hicks started the game for Sikeston, allowing eight runs on nine hits in three innings of work, striking out two. Hayden Alcorn and Bays threw three innings and one inning respectively.

The Bulldogs did collect nine hits with Hicks and Alcorn each with two.

Lee’s Summit West 17, Sikeston 7

In the second game, Sikeston once again fell behind early, allowing six runs in the top of the first inning to Lee’s Summit West.

The Titans added two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 8-1 lead but Sikeston exploded for six runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 8-7.

In the bottom of the fourth, Self singled, scoring both Alcorn and Lestyn Thompson who had walked and singled respectively. Self later scored on a Hicks single to right and Jeffery Thornbrough, who singled, scored on a Bays double to left.

After Hicks crossed the plate after error, Bays scored the final run in the inning on a passed ball.

Unfortunately for Sikeston they were unable to manage another run as Lee’s Summit West plated two more runs in the top of the fifth and then broke the game open with seven runs in the top of the seventh.
