Southeast Missouri State gymnastics tops Illinois State in home opener

The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team edged Illinois State 193.300-191.175 to win its home opener Friday night at Houck Field House.

Lindsey Bates claimed the all-around title with a score of 38.950, defeating ISU's Gabrielle Cooke (38.400) in second. SEMO's McKenna Stanley took third with a 36.900.

Bates and teammate Alexis Brawner tied with ISU's Alyssa Wiggle for first place on bars, finishing with a score of 9.725. Alana Fischer (9.600), McKinzie Jones (9.600), Stanley (9.575) and Jordan Williams (6.900) rounded out the Redhawks' scores in the event.

On beam, Bates tied with Cooke for first place with a score of 9.700. Jones (9.650), Williams (9.625), Michael Sanders (9.550), Fischer (9.475), Megan Dennis (8.925) and Stanley (8.275) rounded out SEMO's scores in the event.

On the floor exercise, Brawner placed first with a 9.825, followed closely behind by Jones and Cooke in a second-place tie (9.800). Bates (9.775), Gabrielle Adams (9.750), Mackenzie Slee (9.700) and Stanley (9.600) also tallied scores for Southeast in the event.

SEMO's first rotation was on vault, as Brawner took first with a score of 9.775. Bates was second with a 9.750, while Adams placed third with a 9.700. Slee (9.550), Stanley (9.450) and Savannah Remkus (8.800) rounded out the Redhawks' scores in the event.

Southeast returns to action with another home meet at 4 p.m. Monday against Lindenwood.
