Kennett senior Zane Wallace knew Three Rivers College was the right place for him after completing baseball drills at the two-year school over the summer.

“They have a great program,” Wallace said. “I really enjoyed it when I went up there and completed a workout this summer. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the coaches at the school.”

Wallace signed to play baseball at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff Thursday afternoon.

“It’s always great to get Kennett kids because they are coming from a good program,” Three Rivers head baseball coach Stacey Burkey said. “Zane will provide our club with a good left-handed bat. One of our recruiting needs is left-handed hitting. We could see him at second base, third base or possibly in the outfield. We will see where the best fit is defensively. I know he’s probably had more experience at second base than anywhere else but I think he will be versatile enough to play multiple positions and be a solid left-handed hitter for us.”

Wallace pitched and played second base most of his junior season of high school.

“Zane was a semi-starter for us as a freshman and has started on the infield for us ever since,” Kennett head baseball coach Aaron New said. “He’s been one of our top three pitchers for the last two years and his bat really came on last year and he started showing signs he could be a hitter at the next level. Hopefully, he will continue to get better as a hitter this spring.”

Wallace, who has also played football and basketball in high school, said baseball has emerged as his favorite sport.

“It just feels good every time I step on the diamond and make a play or a hit ball,” he said.

Wallace said he hopes to cap of his high school career with a district championship this spring.

“Anytime I step on the diamond it’s a fun time with all my guys,” Wallace said.

It is not the first time a Wallace has joined the Three Rivers baseball squad. Zane’s brother Declan was a member of the 2014-15 and 2015-16 Three Rivers baseball squads.

“Declan said he enjoyed every bit of it and had a great time playing there,” Zane Wallace said.

Zane hopes to major in business at Three Rivers.

“I want to thank the good lord for giving me the opportunity to play at the next level and attend college,” he said. “I also want to thank the coaches here at Kennett and my brothers for pushing me. I also want to thank my parents as well.”
