Two Kennett doubles teams advance to girls tennis state tournament

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Four Kennett tennis players booked their spot in the individual final four by collecting state sectional wins Tuesday at Notre Dame Regional High School.

Kennett’s Anna Beth Williams and Kayton Harris advanced to state in doubles by beating Fredericktown’s Bailey Stamp and Maddie Burrows 6-1, 6-2.

Kennett’s Darcy Campbell and Sydni McAtee advanced to state in doubles by beating St. Pius’ Carly Joachimstaler and Alesha Pesold 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

Kennett’s Emma Phillips also participated in a singles match at the sectional. She suffered a season-ending loss to St. Pius’ Susana Wilson 6-1, 6-2.

Williams-Harris and McAtee-Campbell will compete in the individual state doubles tournament at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield Oct. 13-14.

Kennett also remains in contention for the team state title. Kennett (12-0) plays Rosati-Kain (8-5) in a state sectional Saturday at 9 a.m. at John Burroughs High School. The other sectional between St. Pius X of Festus (13-1) and John Burroughs (14-1) is also at 9 a.m. at John Burroughs High School. The winners of the sectionals square off against each other in a state quarterfinals Saturday at about noon at John Burroughs High School in St. Louis.
