First half offensive explosion lifts Caruthersville football team over Portageville

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. — The Caruthersville Tigers offense exploded for 62 first half points en route to a 69-34 win over visiting Portageville Friday night.

Caruthersville scored four times in the first seven minutes of the first quarter, with two touchdown runs from Deandre Davis and two touchdown passes from quarterback Charles Golliday.

Portageville was able to stop the bleeding when quarterback Ian Torrey scored from one-yard out, but the Tigers added another touchdown pass to cap the first quarter and outscored Portageville 27-6 in the second quarter, substituting liberally by halftime.

The Bulldogs played a stronger second half, outscoring Caruthersville 20-7.

Davis led Caruthersville (1-0) in rushing with 150 yards on 8 carries while Golliday completed 8 of 10 passes for 124 yards and four touchdowns, including three to Bryce Strawn. The senior caught 4 passes for 74 yards.

Torrey rushed for 118 yards on 15 carries for Portageville (0-1) while completing 15 of 42 passes for 225 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Conner Barham caught five passes for 90 yards and Lamar Alexander added five catches for 71 yards while rushing for 56 yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns.
