MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Notre Dame boys tennis wins regular-season finale against Sikeston

The Notre Dame boys tennis team won all but one singles match, defeating host Sikeston 8-1 in its regular-season finale on Monday.

The win improved Notre Dame's record to 10-1, while Sikeston dropped to 0-8.

Notre Dame will now turn its attention to the Class 1 District 1 tournament, which is scheduled for next week in Sikeston.

BASEBALL

Jackson 3, Dexter 1

Colten Weber delivered six solid innings to lead the Indians past the Bearcats in a SEMO Conference Tournament consolation semifinal at Capaha Field.

Weber earned the victory on the mound, allowing just one earned run on two hits. He struck out 13 batters and walked three. Tyler Martin struck out two during a scoreless seventh for Jackson (18-7).

Tyler Knight hit a triple for the Indians, accounting for the lone extra-base hit of the game.

Spencer Owens took the pitching loss for Dexter (6-11). He gave up three runs (one earned) on three hits, finishing with three strikeouts and five walks.

The win advanced Jackson into the consolation final versus Kennett, which defeated New Madrid County Central 9-8 in the other consolation semifinal.

Cole Welker drove in Drew Brown in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Jackson rallied to defeat Kennett in walk-off fashion and claim the consolation final of the SEMO Conference Tournament at Capaha Field.

Justice Crosnoe finished 3-for-3 with a triple to lead Jackson (19-7), which erased a seven-run deficit after 2 1/2 innings. Braedon Dobbs added three base hits for Jackson, while Welker, Drew Brown and Bo Goddard each had two singles. Colten Weber contributed a double.

Jarrett Newell pitched six innings as Jackson's starting pitcher, giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits. He struck out three batters and walked three. Dobbs pitched a scoreless seventh and was credited with the win after giving up one hit and striking out two.

Zane Wallace was the losing pitcher for Kennett (7-11). He lasted 2 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits.

Patrick Maddox had a double and two singles for Kennett, while Zane Wallace added three singles and three RBIs. Heath McHaney also had three hits for Kennett, which got a double from Tyreik Thomas and a triple from Tristan Wallace.

Jakoata Walther finished 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, leading the Crusaders in the victory over the visiting Centurions.

Jacob Stueve and Zach Meyr each added a single and a double for Saxony (11-4), while Mason Lewis and Luke Richmond each contributed a pair of base hits.

Tyler Amos picked up the pitching win for the Crusaders, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits in 6 1/3 innings of work. He struck out seven batters and walked four.

Andrew Hubbard got the start on the mound for Century and was tagged with the loss. He lasted 3 1/3 innings, giving up six earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Hubbard had a single and a triple for the Centurions.
