Southeast Missouri State softball drops doubleheader versus Missouri

Southeast Missouri State softball dropped a road doubleheader to Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, on Tuesday.

The Redhawks fell 14-3 and 9-1 in two shortened games.

SEMO (17-23) started strong in Game 1 with two runs in the first inning.

But the Tigers (26-18) responded with 10 straight runs. They scored two in the bottom of the first and two more in the third. Then, they erupted for six in the fourth as they took advantage of two errors to score five unearned runs.

The Redhawks got one run back in the fifth as Brittany Stevens scored, but Missouri's Braxton Burnside ended the game with a grand slam in the bottom of the inning with the run rule taking effect. Burnside was 4-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs.

Madeline Krumrey was the losing pitcher. She gave up five runs, seven runs and one walk in 3 1/3 innings.

In Game 2, Missouri scored three runs in the first. Southeast pushed a run across in the third, but Missouri responded with six straight runs. The game ended after the Tigers scored a run in the sixth.

Alexis Estes was the losing pitcher, allowing eight runs on 13 hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Southeast returns to the field at 1 p.m. Saturday for a home doubleheader against Morehead State. Sunday, the Redhawks host Eastern Kentucky in another doubleheader starting at noon.
