Southeast Missouri State right-handed pitcher Justin Murphy has been named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The senior Murphy had SEMO's first complete game of the season in a 1-0 win over Jacksonville State on Friday night. He allowed eight hits, as the Gamecocks left seven runners stranded on base. Murphy struck out five batters and didn't issue a walk until JSU was down to its final out.

This is the first OVC weekly award in Murphy's career.

A native of Kingdom City, Missouri, Murphy has a 4.15 ERA, which ranks seventh in the league, while holding opponents to a .258 batting average. His 56 1/3 innings pitched is the fourth-most in the conference.

After watching his ERA increase to 5.91, Murphy has excelled over his last three starts, during which he has a 1.85 ERA in 24 1/3 innings.

This is the second week this season the Redhawks have claimed Pitcher of the Week honors, with Clay Chandler earning the award on April 3.

Southeast (19-15) returns to action against Saint Louis (21-11) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Capaha Field. Ryan Losman (0-1) will take the mound for the Redhawks.
