Alexis Brawner capped off a stellar weekend with some recognition from the Midwest Independent Conference.

Brawner, a junior on the Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team, was named the MIC Gymnast of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

She was instrumental in two meet victories for the Redhawks, collecting scores of 9.700 or better in all but one event. Brawner claimed four event titles and posted two all-around scores above 39.000, including a career-high score of 39.225.

Brawner's 9.900 on floor during Sunday's action not only tied a career-high but also gave Southeast the win over Air Force by .025 points.

"Alexis has really improved as the season has progressed," Redhawks coach Kristi Ewasko said in a news release. "Due to injury, Alexis has really focused on the mental aspect of training and competing. She is a very physically talented gymnast, and this weekend, she finally put into play the confidence and mental piece of the puzzle!

"I am so proud of the adjustments she has made and look forward to her continuing to improve in the weeks ahead!"

The award is Brawner's first of the season and the fifth of her career.

Southeast concludes its regular season against Western Michigan at 4 p.m. Saturday in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
