SEMO ROUNDUP: Redhawks softball extends winning streak to seven games
The Southeast Missouri State softball team extend its winning streak to seven games with two wins Saturday at the We Back Pat tournament.
The Redhawks defeated Missouri State 2-1 in Game 1 and University of Missouri-Kansas City 4-2 in Game 2 in Kansas City, Missouri. They are the fifth Ohio Valley Conference school to reach 10 wins this season.
Riley Hayes drove in both runs in the Game 1 win with a two-RBI double with one out in the second inning.
MSU loaded the bases in the fifth but SEMO (10-2) got out of the jam by just allowing one run.
SEMO's Madeline Krumrey picked up her fifth victory, and fourth straight, in the complete game win. She allowed one run and seven hits while notching four strikeouts in seven innings.
Rachel Anderson led SEMO at the plate by going 3-for-3. As a team, the Redhawks had five in the low-scoring contest.
In Game 2, Alexis Estes struck out eight and secured her first career complete game victory. She gave up three hits and a walk.
Parker Bandy notched an RBI triple as the Redhawks drew first blood in the fourth. Addison Barnouski hit a solo home run in the fifth and SEMO scored two unearned runs in the sixth.
UMKC scored two runs in the seventh on a two-run home run by Morgan Byrn but it wasn't enough.
Barnouski went 2-for-3 as SEMO ended up with seven hits in Game 2.
Southeast finishes the tournament with two more games today. The first game is against Saint Louis at 11 a.m.
Freshman Denzel Mahoney was named to the Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball All-Tournament team on Saturday.
Mahoney averaged 27 points in two games this past week. SEMO lost to the eventual champion Jacksonville State in the quarterfinals Thursday.
Southeast posted a season-high score of 193.425 in a home tri-meet victory Friday. SEMO beat Texas Woman's University (193.225) and Rutgers (192.550).
Alexis Branwer won her 11th event crown of the season.
SEMO scored 48.550 on the vault. Branwer tied a season-best with 9.825. Courteney Taylor was second with a season-high 9.800. Ashely Thomas was third with 9.750.
On the bars, Southeast got another season-high with a score of 48.600. McKenna Stanley, Taylor and Thomas all had the high score of 9.725.
Southeast compiled a score of 37.800 on the beam. McKinzie Jones led the way with a 9.775. Brawner was second on the team with a 9.750.
The Redhawks closed the meet with a score of 48.875 on the floor. Jones got a season-high 9.850 and won the event. Thomas was second with a score of 9.775.
SEMO closes out its home schedule with Senior Day at 1 p.m. today against Air Force.
Southeast announced three 2017 summer camps Friday.
There's a Team Shootout camp for high school and AAU teams, an Elite Camp for high schoolers and a Kids Camp.
The Team Shootout camp is June 16-17 and costs each team $250 per day.
The Elite Camp is June 18 and 40 dollars per camper. Participants must be in grades 9-12.
The Kids Camp is June 19-21 from 9 a.m. to noon each day. It's open for kids from the first through eighth grade and costs 75 dollars.
