SEMO ROUNDUP: O'Brien sets record for at OVC track and field championships

Southeast Missouri State junior Sydney O'Brien set an indoor school record in the women's 5000 meters with a time of 17:05.21 on the first day of competition Friday at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Charleston, Illinois.

O'Brien finished fourth in the race as she broke Kaitlyn Shea's mark, set earlier this season. Friday, Shea finished seventh in the 500 meters.

Stephen Zagurski was fourth in the men's weight throw with a personal-best throw of 17.19 meters.

After the first day of competition, the men sat in sixth place with 11 points. The women have 10 points and are ninth.

Winning streak snapped

Southeast Missouri State women's tennis lost 6-1 to Southern Illinois on Friday as its four-match winning streak came to an end.

SEMO lost all three double matches, and Isabella Krupa was the Redhawks' sole victory in singles. She won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Baseball tailgate dates

The first of seven tailgates dates at Capaha Field for the Southeast Missouri State baseball team will be at 6 p.m. Saturday vs. Purdue, the SEMO Department of Athletics announced Friday.

The Purdue contest is one of four tailgates on the weekend. The other three are for midweek contests.

Food and beer will be provided by various companies at each of the seven tailgate dates.

The other tailgate dates are 5 p.m. March 15th vs. Missouri State, 6 p.m. March 17 vs. UT Martin, 6 p.m. March 31 vs. Austin Peay, 6 p.m. April 25 vs. Southern Illinois, 6 p.m. April 28 vs. Tennessee Tech and 2 p.m. April 29 vs. Tennessee Tech.
