MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Scott County Central, East Prairie, Oran, Scott City all advance in conference tourney

There were no surprises in Tuesday's opening round of the Scott-Mississippi Conference boys basketball tournament as the top four seeds easily prevailed in their respective quarterfinals at Thomas W. Kelly High School in Benton, Mo.

Oran ousted sixth-seed host Kelly 81-47. Max Priggel poured in a tournament-high 33 points to lead Oran (8-6), which had little problem handling the Hawks and flew out to a 23-point advantage at the intermission.

Jacob Shoemaker added 15 points and Cole Priggel chipped in 12 points for the Eagles.

Kade Proctor and Cayden Williams had 12 points each to pace Kelly (2-11).

Oran will meet second-seeded East Prairie at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Tyus Banks scored a game-high 14 points as top-seeded Scott County Central stomped eighth-seeded Delta 63-22.

Deven Blackmon sank 13 points and Deantrell Beard chipped in 12 points for the Braves, who held the Bobcats (2-13) scoreless at the end of the first quarter.

Scott County Central (11-4) will face fourth-seeded Scott City in a semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Rams upended fifth-seeded Oak Ridge 66-37 to advance to the next round. Casey Medlin netted 15 points while Braden Cox recorded 14 points and six rebounds for Scott City (10-7), which roamed out to a 49-24 lead at the break. Dylan Keller posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists and also tallied seven steals and five rebounds to help lead the Rams to victory.

Jordan Barker finished with 15 points, all from behind the arc, to pace Oak Ridge (5-9).

East Prairie's Casey Gregory and Derez Tipler had 20 points apiece as the second-seeded Eagles toppled seventh-seeded Chaffee 81-52 to proceed to Thursday's other semifinal.

Luke Marcum contributed 14 points for East Prairie (7-7) and Mason Bryars pitched in 11 points for the Eagles.

Landon Tenkhoff accumulated a game-high 22 points for the Red Devils (2-14) in the loss.

The championship is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Friday, preceded by the third-place game at 5:15 p.m.

Cole Nichols netted a game-high 18 points to lead Bell City (8-8, 2-3). A total of 51 points were scored in the final quarter as the Cubs failed to maintain the lead at the end of any quarter.

Bell City handed Woodland its first loss of the season (51-47) in the opening round of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament on December 26.

Yienvi Johnson chipped in 11 points while Sydney Tollison recorded four steals for the Tigers.
