Southeast Missouri State adds gymnast to roster ahead of season
Southeast Missouri State gymnastics added a new recruit ahead of the upcoming season.
Mackenzie Slee signed with SEMO, the university announced Monday. The New Zealand native will enroll at Southeast for the second semester and thus be eligible to compete when Southeast's season begins on January 15, 2017. She graduated from Christchurch Girls High School earlier this month.
Slee has international experience. In 2013, she won individual gold in the vault and team gold at the Perth International. The next two years, she made the New Zealand World Championship teams. Earlier this year, she helped New Zealand to a fifth-place finish at the Pacific Rim Championships, and she won each event at the New Zealand Championships.
"We are excited to welcome Mackenzie to the Redhawk family for the upcoming season," Southeast coach Kristi Ewasko said in a news release. "She has recently completed her competition season in New Zealand and is ready to add some depth to our team.
"Mackenzie brings an upbeat personality and has been determined to earn a spot on SEMO's gymnastics team. After her successful season, we know she will contribute to many lineups for us this season."
The Redhawks season beings with a tri-meet at Lindenwood. Missouri will be the third team competing.
